Panasonic SV-SD80 another loser product from Panasonic? Probably not.

The Good
*Very small. Looks cool. Expandable memory (SD Memory card). Very long battery life.

The Bad
*VERY Expensive. No radio. No recording function. No remote control. LCD not backlit. Low listening volumn.

The Conclusion
With a bad reputation from the previous products (Panasonic SV-SD50, Panasonic SV-SD75), the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI) copy protection gave us a lot of problem. Nevertheless, to our surprise, the SV-SD80, doesn't give us much of a fuss. And another impressive thing we've found out with this product is that they claimed that they have a battery life of 50 hours! The small Ni-Mh inside the player will give you a 18 hours of play time but with an extra, nicely integrated external AA battery pod which gives you an extra boost on battery life.
We tested the product, by having it to run over night, more than 36 hours, and it is still alife and kicking. So, due to get time restriction we get to review this product, we are not able to confirm the 50 hours battery life. Nevertheless, a more than 36 hours run is the BEST among the MP3 player. Another obvious sleek features will be the size. It is the still the smallest/lightest ever in the market .

As for the bads of this player will be the price. With a price tag of US$300, you can already get much nicer (more memory perhaps) MP3 players, at the cost that the cheaper player may be much bigger than the SV-SD80 (the Creative Normad MuVo may be a good alternative choice). Another thing I dislike abou this product will be the LCD, which is not backlit. Though many other player doesn't have backlit LCD as well, but for a product of that price tag, I'm expecting it to do better than this. Finally, another bad thing that we found out is the volumn. You may have an enjoyable time with this player on a quiet neighbourhood, but forget about it if you are on a busy street as the maximum volumn of this player is far much less than I've expected. I wonder if that's their trick to able to boost its battery life to 50 hours.

Final word, if you like long battery life, sleek looking player what you can show off by wearing it around your neck, this is the one! But, if you are budget concerned, like to store tons of MP3 with you, this won't be a good choice for you.

As a good deed for all, we do not recommend the following product as they have fussy SDMI copy protection software. But, if you already had them, I heard that they already have a patch for their software, which will solve this problem. For those who haven't have them, we will recommend the the SV-SD80 rather the two below.
