剛 逝 世 的 赤 柬 領 袖 波 爾 布 特 ， 在 柬 埔
寨 興 風 作 浪 幾 十 年 ， 殺 人 無 數 ， 卻 又
極 度 神 秘 ， 究 竟 此 人 有 �� 怎 樣 的 性 格
？ 如 何 能 夠 長 時 間 周 旋 於 列 強 之 間 、

剛 逝 世 的 赤 柬 領 袖 波 爾 布 特 ， 終 其 一
生 最 大 特 色 是 ： 手 段 殘 酷 、 行 蹤 詭 秘
、 魅 力 非 凡 。
據 估 計 ， 波 爾 布 特 在 七 五 至 七 九 年 間
殺 害 了 逾 二 百 萬 柬 埔 寨 人 ， 但 此 人 作
風 十 分 神 秘 ， 生 前 各 種 傳 聞 不 絕 ， 即
使 他 生 於 何 年 也 有 多 個 版 本 ， 直 到 他
死 時 ， 外 界 終 於 獲 得 證 實 。

雖 然 歷 史 上 許 多 成 功 的 革 命 家 都 是 作
風 神 秘 ， 但 像 波 爾 布 特 那 樣 神 秘 的 並
不 多 見 。 打 從 他 自 一 九 四 ○ 年 代 ， 加
入 印 度 支 那 共 產 黨 ， 積 極 從 事 革 命 活
動 以 來 ， 直 到 一 九 七 五 年 赤 柬 奪 取 金
邊 後 ， 外 界 才 得 知 赤 柬 是 真 正 控 制 民
主 柬 埔 寨 政 府 的 「 幕 後 黑 手 」 ， 波 爾

部 隊 、 於 一 九 七 六 年 在 法 國 獲 政 治 庇
護 的 丁 布 （ 譯 音 ） 說 ； 「 我 親 手 參 與
處 決 了 五 千 人 。 」
當 年 僅 十 六 歲 的 赤 柬 青 年 養 薩 利 （ 譯
音 ） 說 ， 他 在 七 八 年 六 月 和 同 僚 處 決
了 一 萬 名 被 指 親 越 南 的 人 士 。
他 說 ： 「 我 喝 了 一 大 杯 混 合 了 一 個 人
肝 的 烈 酒 後 ， 便 整 天 不 停 開 槍 。 」
但 有 趣 的 是 ， 幾 乎 所 有 認 識 或 會 晤 過
波 爾 布 特 的 人 都 會 同 意 ， 此 人 不 僅 魅
力 非 凡 ， 而 且 十 分 可 親 。
波 爾 布 特 當 年 執 教 鞭 時 教 過 的 學 生 大
都 形 容 他 為 人 可 親 、 謙 遜 有 禮 ， 深 受
歡 迎 。 他 的 親 生 弟 弟 年 前 也 說 ， 波 爾
布 特 為 人 彬 彬 有 禮 、 尊 敬 長 者 ， 他 說

Cambodian Communist leader; b. Saloth Sar. After the
Khmer Rouge victory in Cambodia in 1975, he became (1976) prime
minister. Under his regime, widespread executions, forced labor,
and famine killed an estimated 3 million Cambodians. In 1979
Vietnam invaded and ousted the Khmer Rouge from Phnom Penh,
establishing a government led by Heng Samrin, but Pol Pot
remained head of the Khmer Rouge, which retained control of large
areas of Cambodia. In late 1979 he was replaced as prime minister
by Khieu Samphan and named Khmer Rouge army chief. He officially
retired in 1985, but he is believed still to head the Khmer
Rouge.

Pol Pot, also Pol Porth or Tol Saut, pseudonym of Saloth Sar
(1928- ), Cambodian guerrilla commander and political leader,
generally considered responsible for the devastation of his
country. Born in Kompong Thom Province, he joined the outlawed
Indochinese Communist party in 1946, later studied in Paris, and
taught school in Phnom Penh. In 1963 he went into the jungle,
where he organized the guerrillas known as the Khmer Rouge; in
the open civil war following Lon Nol's coup in 1970, he was
allied with Prince Sihanouk. After the Khmer Rouge ousted Lon Nol
in 1975, Pol Pot directed the emptying of Cambodian cities,
forcing virtually the entire population into the countryside to
work as peasants. During the next three years, when he was prime
minister, between 1.5 and 2 million people are estimated to have
perished by execution, disease, starvation, and overwork. Pol Pot
was deposed by the invading Vietnamese in January 1979 and
thereafter waged a guerrilla war against the regime they
installed. In 1982 he formed a common front with opposition
leaders Prince Sihanouk and former Prime Minister Son Sann; he
resigned as Khmer Rouge commander in 1985.
