Volume 1 Edition 10
The field at Adelanto was poorly-maintained and the official was lax in making some calls but it was Hesperia's failure to put together a solid offensive effort which caused the Silver Bullets' downfall. The defense played tough defense through most of the game but fell down in the final quarter. And the Hesperia midfield failed to adequately control the ball in the middle. Despite these failings, Hesperia was still very much in the game until the fourth quarter. One goal by Randy Rivard was called back. Daryl Giagnocavo, Hesperia's leading goal scorer, was knocked out of the game late in the third quarter on a rough play which was not penalized. Armando Ruiz scored the Silver Bullets' only goal on a nice breakaway in which he dribbled past the goalie to an open Adelanto goal. Goalkeeper David Houseman had to come out of the game early in the fourth quarter suffering from stomach cramps. Most notable for stalwart play for Hesperia was Sean Wagner who played his best game of the season.
The good news for the Silver Bullets is that they only lose three of their players for next year. Beto Canel, Adam Salas and Brian Howell are the only players who will leave due to age restrictions. All the other players will be 15 years old making Hesperia the most experienced team in Division 2 next year.
Volume 1 Edition 8
The Hesperia Silver Bullets extended their winning streak to 2 games with a resounding 5-1 victory over a winless but tough Rosamond team at Hesperia High School. The Silver Bullets record is now 2-6-1 giving them a total of 37 playoff points.
Hesperia got off to their best start of the season in this game.
Alberto Canela gets a good offensive kick against Rosamond defenders.
Beto Canela got the first goal early in the first quarter. The mid fielders and defenders for Hesperia Silver Bullets did not allow the Rosamond team an opportunity to get at the Hesperia goal. They trapped just about every goal kick and returned the ball to our offense. Daryl Giagnocavo scored the second goal of the game on an assist from Randy Rivard. Canela followed up with another goal before the half, giving Hesperia a 3-0 lead, exactly what the Silver Bullets needed to get a perfect point score in the race for the playoffs. Another highlight of the first half were several full field attacks by Adam Salas, sweeper for Hesperia. His shots just barely missed the goal going over the top. Forward Mike Hicks also had several shots that just missed scoring. There was one very tense moment when Rosamond was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box. A superb save of that penalty kick by Goalkeeper David Houseman prevented an almost sure goal for Rosamond. Thus, the Silver Bullets maintained their first half shut-out of Rosamond.
The Silver Bullets kept up their offensive attack in the second half. Trevor Wagstaffe scored a goal on a penalty kick in the third quarter when he threaded the ball into the upper right corner of the net. Giagnocavo got his second goal in the second half to give the team a 5-0 lead. It appeared that Hesperia would get a shut out but thru a series of critical errors in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, allowed Rosamond to score costing the team a ten point victory.

It is very exciting to watch the team come together slowly but surely at each practice. We have two outstanding goalies in Chris Arnold and David Houseman. Coach Scott and Coach John are just now sorting out the offensive, middle and defensive lines. Major concerns for us now are getting the boys in good physical shape and sharpening their passing kicking and other soccer skills.
Soccerfest is this Saturday at Hook Park in Victorville. Please let the coaches now right away if you will be attending so they can RSVP the Area Coordinators so they can buy the food.
