Songs!

Music has always been important to me. It can reflect my feelings when I’m hurting, can inspire and uplift me, and sometimes just make me smile. Here are a few of my favourite songs for those down times.

Waiting - George Michael
(from “Listen Without Prejudice”, Epic, 1990)

All those insecurities
That have held me down for so long
Can’t say I’ve found a cure for these
But at least I know them
So they’re not so strong

How Will You Go - Crowded House
(I’m not sure which album this is on - my copy is from the “Special Edition:Live” CD released by Capitol Records in 1996)
How will you go?
How will you go?
Drive through the wind and the rain.
Cover it up.
Cover it up.
I’ll find you a shelter to sleep in.
Everybody Hurts - R.E.M.
(From “Automatic For the People”, Warner Records, 1992)
Everybody hurts
Sometimes
Everybody cries...
One, Tryin’ To throw your Arms Around the World - U2
(From “Achtung Baby”, Island Records, 1991)
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
now its all i’ve got.
We’re one
but we’re not the same...
Stay - Lisa Loeb
(From “Tails”, Geffen Records, 1994)
I don’t pay attention to the distance that you’re running
To anyone, anwhere
I don’t understand if you really care
I’m only hearing negative: no, no, no.
The Day Brings - Brad
(From “Interiors”, Epic Records, 1997)
So gather around
And see what the day brings
See what makes you laugh
And what makes you sing.
So Much to Say - Dave Matthews Band
(From “Crash”, RCA Records, 1996>)
I find sometimes it’s easy to be myself
Sometimes
I find it’s better to be somebody else
So much to say
Run Baby Run, Can’t Cry Anymore - Sheryl Crow
(From “Tuesday Night Music Club”, A&M Music, 1993)
And she’s searching through the stations
For an unfamiliar song
And she pictures all the places
Where she knows she still belongs
(From “Run Baby Run”)

Could be worse
Could’ve missed my calling
Sometimes it hurts
But when you read the writing on the wall
Can’t cry anymore
(From “Can’t Cry Anymore”)
The Cool River, Further To Fly - Paul Simon
(From “Rhythm of the Saints”, Warner Music, 1990)
Who says: Hard times?
I’m used to that.
The speeding planet burns
I’m used to that.
My life’s so common it disappears.
And sometimes even music
Cannot substitute for tears.
(from “The Cool River”)

There may come a time
When you’ll be tired
As tired as a dream that wants to die
And further to fly...
(from “Further to Fly)
