Food And My Favourite Preparers Of Such
Everyone knows someone who is the culinary master of certain dishes. For no reason at all except to add a bit of variety to my homepage, here is a list of some food I enjoy and the people/places who rule the making of them . . .
Apricot Chicken, Casserole and Pancakes - My Mum is a fine cook but she excels in these dishes in particular. She also shares joint rulership of Roasts with my Grandma.
Tuna Mornae, Meat And 3 Veg, Roasts - Can't beat the old-style country cooking of Grandma here.
Pizza - I hate normal pizza, I will only eat that homemade by Anita, who makes the base out of scone dough . . . yum yum.
Scones - while we're on the subject, I rule the world of scones. I also make an extremely tasty spaghetti bolognaise.
Tuna Stir-Fry - Aisha takes this honour, but then anyone who can convince me to eat a peanut-butter, mayonnaise and sweet sliced onion sandwich (and enjoy it!) must be good!
Steak Sandwiches - the best ever can be found only once a year at the Wilmington Rodeo (ever wonder what happens to the losing cattle??)
Schnitzel Meals - can't go past Thursday $5 Schnitzel nights at the Commercial Hotel, Gladstone SA!
Fried Chicken - ahhhhh, just can't go past the Colonel for this one, and that potato and gravy, mmmmmm.
Chocca-mocca-carachino - not a food, strictly speaking, a delicious and unique hot beverage made exclusively by Loui at Saliba's Deli, Queen's Road Melbourne
Cream Cheese (white) Sauce - my sister takes the prize here for an extremely tasty sauce that just sets broccolli off perfectly!
Barbecue - had to mention Dad here somewhere, cooks a mean barbie, and doesn't burn the onions.
Webers - although Dad is also talented in this area, his brother, my Uncle Barry has the magic touch here and my Aunty Julie for vegetable preparation of the above.
Chips & Gravy - the now-defunct Krazy Korner Deli. I lived on their food, breakfast lunch and tea for a year.
Potato Salad - Joint Rulership again, this time by two sets of next-door neighbours over the years, Mrs Van Englen and Mrs Peacock.
Risotto - I never liked risotto until I tried a delicious chicken, broccoli and white wine one from Roula's, Queen's Lane, Melbourne.
Malaysian Creamy Satay - Sheona and Daniel both excel at this particular dish.
