An Evil Aid

Buffy The Vampire Slayer:

An Evil Aid

Chapter 1

It was a cool and quiet Friday evening in Sunnydale. The sun had just set. There was barely anyone around. In fact there was no one around. Sunnydale didn't seem like a ghost town. It was a well-populated town in California. But, no. There was not a soul in site. Then again, Nicki didn't know Sunnydale very well, and thought that everyone might have gone away for the long weekend. But the whole town? Then, she saw three vampires run by along with a tall blond girl not that far behind them. Nicki looked a little puzzled. "This could be interesting." She said to herself. "I think I'll follow. Maybe this town won't be as bad as I thought it would." Nicki ran behind the girl. She didn't want to make herself be noticed so she slowed her pace down a bit. As they rounded the corner, two more vampires came out of the shadows making the girl and three vampires stop. "What is this a party or something?" The girl asked. The vampires surrounded her. She looked hopeless. "Oh this is fair!" She said. Then she jumped into the air and did a somersault over top of their heads and started to basically beat the hell out of them. Then Nicki felt someone grab her from behind. It was an another vampire. She took him and flipped him over her head and pulled out a wooden stake and plunged it through his chest and into his heart. The vampire turned to dust. She looked up and noticed that the girl was getting beat up pretty badly. Nicki decided that she would help out. She didn't think it would hurt any. She came up behind a vampire and took another stake and plunged it through his back into his heart. "Hey! Thought you could use some help." She said as the vampire dust fell to the ground. The girl and the vampires looked a little puzzled. "Behind you!" She yelled at Nicki. Nicki pulled out yet another stake and spun around just in time to drive it into the vampire. The other vampires that were there freaked out and ran away. "Just exactly who are you?" The girl asked walking over to Nicki. "I'm Nicki. My mom and I just moved here from Canada." "Where did you learn to fight like that?" She asked. "Well when I was 4, my parents put me into Karate and Teak wan do. I was in it for years. Then we had to move here, so it kinda fell through. I've had my black belt for a few years now." There was a pause. "So, you are?" "Oh I'm so sorry! My name is Buffy." Nicki looked down at the ground for a moment. Then she thought of her letter. She reached into her pocket and pulled out an envelope. She gave it to Buffy. "I figure either you're the Slayer or you know her. Could you please give this to her?" Buffy looked at it. Just as she was about to thank Nicki for her help, she was gone. "Where did she go?" She thought to herself. Buffy shrugged her shoulders. She looked at the letter again. "I'd better get home." Buffy shoved the letter into her pocket and ran off down the alley. No sooner did she leave; a tall dark figure came out of the shadows. Who ever it was had been watching her. The figure started to walk in the same direction as Buffy. The figure didn't get with in two feet, when Nicki stopped him. "Leave her alone." She said. The man growled at her. "What business do you have telling me what I can and can't do?" He started to run towards her. Nicki dropped down and lifted him over her shoulders. She threw him into a pile of near by boxes. The man just got up and attacked her again. She flipped him again this time pinning him to the ground. She knew that he was a vampire and was about to put a stake through his heart when she got a good look at his face. "Angelus?" Chapter 2 When Buffy arrived home, she started to unwind and get changed and ready for bed. It was already midnight and things had been slow. Well everything except for her run in with the group of vamps and Nicki. Then she remembered her letter. She pulled it out of her overall pocket and opened it. She read it aloud for herself to hear. Dear Slayer, My name is Nicki Colet and my services are yours. I have slayed before meeting you and wish to help you as much as I can. There are things that I can never tell you about myself. These things I can only talk to Angelus about. If you now of his whereabouts, please tell me. I desperately need to talk to him. And you need not worry. I will not kill him. I must go to him alone. Sincerely, Nicki Colet Buffy read it again to herself to take it in. "Who is she?" She asked herself. Buffy set the letter down on her night table, and went to bed. Chapter 3 Back in the alley, Nicki started to talk to Angel. "So how have you been?" She asked casually. "Fine and you?" he asked with a child like grin on his face. "Done much slaying lately?" He asked. They started to walk. "Actually yes. Just before I ran into you I helped a girl named Buffy take down a few of our own." "What a sin." He started to laugh. "There's something different in you Angel. You seem almost… evil. What happened since we last met?" He smiled again. "To tell you the truth. A lot." He jumped up on top of a car and spun around. "I feel like I've been reborn!" He said psychotically jumping down off the car next to Nicki. "You've gotten your soul back haven't you?" She asked looking down at her feet in disappointment. "What? Do you mean? You like me the way I was when I had my soul? That was too mortal-like for me! I'm back and just as bad and evil as ever!!! If not more!" "You disgust me Angel!" Nicki said as she turned around. She started to walk away from Angel. "I see you haven't thought about giving up yours." Nicki stopped in mid step. She turned around and faced him. "You haven't, have you?" "I don't see the need to be as evil and heartless as we used to be. It was sickening." She started to walk towards him "In fact I'm glad I was with you that night! Getting my soul back was one of the best things that ever could have happened to me!" She came up to him. They were face to face now. He could feel her cool breath on his neck. Nicki could smell the warm blood on his lips. "What did you do while you were in your hiding, huh? Did you just twiddle your thumbs and hope that some day you'd feel better about yourself?" She asked. "I bet you that I've seen more action then you have." He replied backing up. "Maybe that's why you turned! To much stress!" She snapped. "At least I learned something!" "What do you mean?" he asked. They were now in the street just outside of the cemetery. "I decided that I'd go on with my life and looked up the ancient magiks. I found it to be quite a productive time actually. What did you do?" She still was walking forward. Angel backed up further and further. Now they were into the cemetery and he'd have to make sure that he didn't trip over any graves. "I became buddies with the slayer and her friends to tell you the truth." Nicki stopped. "You leave her alone. If I don't find her, I'll…" "You'll do what Nicki?" he asked sitting down on a headstone. She started to get fed up. Nicki turned her back to him and balled her hand into a fist. She didn't know if she should trust him or not. Nicki was confused and tired. "Ok. I've had enough of you!!" she spun around and punched him hard in his stomach knocking the wind out of him. Angel fell over on his side. "You always were a jack ass Angel." She started to walk away from him. "Thanks for the reunion. I remember now why I left!" Chapter 4 Nicki ran the rest of the way home. It wasn't far and she needed the extra exercise. It was an hour until the sun came up. "I know I'm going to make it." She thought to herself. Her auburn hair flew through the wind. Nicki stopped for a moment. It felt like someone was watching her. If not following her. She shrugged her shoulders and again started to speed up. "I'm going to have a long day tomorrow. I hope I can pull this off." She thought as she slowed down to a jog. She rounded a corner and was only a block away from her house. Nicki was walking now. When she reached her house, she unlocked the door and went inside. She took out what was left of her stakes and set them down on the table. Nicki moved around the dark house not turning on any lights what so ever. She moved like a graceful ballerina in the middle of a grand performance. Nicki went to her fridge, reached in and pulled out a bag of blood. She set the bag down and got a glass out of the cupboard. The house was a bit cool, but it didn't bother her. Nicki bit off one of the corners and poured the contents of the bag into the glass. She picked it up and went into her living room. When she sat down, she reached up and turned on a light. It almost blinded her. She set her glass down on the wooden table and picked up an old, musty book. She flipped through a few pages until she came to one that was marked. As she set the book down, she thought about Angel. "God he's changed." Nicki picked up her glass and brought to her mouth. The blood was cool and smooth as she gulped it. She hadn't fed in years. She thought about it many times, but there was no way she could live with herself if she took a mortal's life. When she set the glass down, more then three-quarters of the blood was gone. There wasn't much time left. She picked up a black bag that sat beside the couch. Inside, there was a book of matches, some incense, two black candles and one white along with a few dogwood blossoms. She set everything up on the table in front of her. Then, she picked up the book, and lit the candles. Nicki started to read something from the book aloud. Hail to the Goddess of the Sun. I offer these dogwood blossoms so that this old immortal may walk among the mortals in the presence of your beautiful shining light. With the binding of the underworld let me walk in your golden light. I ask of thee. I pray of thee. Guardians of the watchtower of the underworld, let me out into the sunlight so that I can walk among the mortals. I invoke thee Goddess. I invoke thee Goddess. I invoke thee! So be it! Bless it be. Chapter 5 It was a beautifully warm spring day, when Buffy woke up. She got changed and ran downstairs to have breakfast. "Morning mom!" She said with a smile. "Buffy, I'll be leaving today for the expo. I won't be back until next Friday so if you need anything the number is on the fridge." Joyce looked at her daughter. "I'm sorry Buffy. I've been really up tight with this expo and things at work. Just don't burn anything down this time while I'm gone." "I promise." Buffy replied cheerfully. "I'll keep it off my 'Things To Do' list." Buffy kissed her mom good bye and saw her out. "Good luck mom!" Buffy called as she backed out of the driveway. Buffy went back inside and got a small breakfast. She threw on some shoes and left for school. She and Giles had a training session today. It was just how Buffy wanted to spend her Saturday. When she got there, Giles as always, was reading a book. "Hey Giles! What's up?" startled he looked up from his book. "Huh? What? Oh!! Yes." "Forget it Giles." She sat her bag down on the table while Giles started to root through a various amount of weapons and artillery. "Where shall we start?" Buffy asked. "How about some more work with the cross bow. I think that I'm getting a lot better at." "No, no. Just some punches and kicks today. Not much. Just a basic run through with a stake." Just as Buffy was about to start. There was a knock at the door. "Who could that be on a Saturday?" Giles asked. He motioned Buffy to continue on as he went to the door. When he opened the it, there stood a tall young girl with auburn hair. She was wearing a pair of black pants and a green sweater. "Can I help you?" he asked. "Actually I think I can help you." Chapter 6 "My name is Nicki Colet. I know you don't know me, but I've heard a lot about you from a friend of mine." "Oh?" He gestured Nicki into the library. Buffy finished a flip right in front of Nicki. Nicki reacted with a block, but that was it. She didn't want to hurt Buffy, and she knew it was only a practice. "Hey Buffy. How are ya?" Nicki asked as Buffy set her stake down. "Hey. What are you doing here?" "I came to talk to Giles actually." Nicki sat down on the table. As Giles ran into his office. "Did you give that letter to the Slayer for me?" Nicki asked. "Ah yes I did. She thanks you, but she doesn't need any of your help. She can do fine on her own." "Well whether she likes it or not, I'm here and she's going to get my help." Just then Giles came back out of his office with a book. "What did you say your name was again?" "Colet! Nicki Colet." He flipped through a few more pages and then stopped. "Ah! Here it is! I thought your name sounded familiar." Giles looked up at her and smiled. "You're the assistant aren't you?" Chapter 7 "What are you talking about Giles?" Buffy asked surprised. "She's your assistant." "What the hell is that?!" "It means that I help you slay vampires whether you like it or not." Nicki said jumping down off the table. "What!!! I don't need a sidekick! I'm doing fine on my own!" "Not from what I've heard." Giles and Buffy both looked at Nicki puzzled. "What do you mean?" Giles asked. "I hear you've been having troubles with Spike, Drusilla and Angelus. Angelus most of all." "How did you know that??" Buffy said a little shaky. "He's an old friend of mine." Buffy looked at her. "An old friend?" "We met a few years ago. We were close." Nicki said. She knew it was a lie, but she didn't care. She had to gain Buffy and Giles's trust before anything. "Anyways, when do we start patrol?" Nicki asked turning to Giles. "We don't go on patrol at any time. I do the patrolling. ALONE!" "Sorry Buffy, but she is your assistant. She's got to help you." "In a way you could say that it's been my job for awhile now." Chapter 8 At about 8pm that night, Nicki left for the school. So far things with Buffy weren't going well. She needed to gain her trust. The demon inside her made that hard. "I hope this works." Nicki said as she started to walk down the street. "Hope what works?" a voice said from behind her. "I don't want anything to do with you Angelus." "What's the matter? Can't call me Angel?" Nicki turned around to see Angel. He was dressed in his usual black. "No, I can't. Because you're not Angel. The Angel I knew was a lot… well, nicer. And you are defiantly not Angel!" "Oh I'm Angel, just not the one you remember. Oh that's right! You knew that Angel too. But guess what! Times have changed!" "You should have changed with it!" Nicki jumped up and kicked him in the face. She turned and started to run away from him. Angel got up and was staggering a bit, but was able to see where she was going. When he found his balance, he started to chase after Nicki. As Nicki rounded a corner, Angel sped up. He wasn't that far behind. He growled in anger and bared his ivory fangs. When he came to the corner, he couldn't find Nicki. She was gone. "Where did you go you little brat!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. He slowed his pace down. He turned around and around, wondering what happened to her. He stood still. Then there was a sudden crash of garbage cans near by. Angel took off in the direction of which the sound came from. He picked up the lid thinking that Nicki was trying to hide under it, but instead, it was a black cat. It hissed and swatted him in the face. Angel had a faint claw mark on his right cheek now. But it soon would heal. Nicki started to quietly laugh. "Serves him right." she thought to herself. She walked in front of him. Only he couldn't see her. She was invisible. "Angelus." She whispered. He turned around wondering where it came from. The wind started to pick up a bit making things a little bit dreary and blacker. "Where are you!!!" he yelled. "Angelus." She whispered again. He got mad and punched a wall. Nicki decided that she'd leave him there. "It's not like he has to be anywhere." She giggled as she left the street and continued on to towards the school. When she knew she was far enough away, she became visible again. "I love this! He had no idea where I went." She thought to herself as she opened the door to the library. Buffy was there with a few of her friends. When she walked in, everything became quiet. "Don't let me stop ya." Nicki replied as she came up to them. "And you would be?" A boy with brown hair and no fashion sense asked. "My name's Nicki. Who are you?" Chapter 9 "The name's Xander. Nice to meet ya." "I'm Willow." A girl wearing a pair of orange overalls said as she sat down in a chair. "And the one that's not talking to you is Cordellia. Watch her. She tends to get a bit testy." "At least I don't shop at the dollar store!!" Buffy smiled at Nicki. "So why did you come back? I thought I told you that I didn't need your help." "Well it seems you did last night. And if it wasn't for me, Angelus would have killed you." They all started to laugh. "Angel hurt Buffy?!!" Xander laughed. "Well actually yeah, but he just won't bite her. He's got to do something more…" "Evil." Nicki exclaimed. Everyone stopped laughing. "You know him well don't you?" Buffy asked. "Yeah I do. He's not one to toy with. I already know that." "Well I think we've already toyed with him." "Xander!" Willow cried. She hit him in his shoulder. "Sorry ok!!" There was a short silence. "What do you mean?" Nicki finally asked. She had been pondering what Xander said moments before. "Angel and Buffy used to be a couple." Willow said looking at Nicki. "I mean… It wasn't Angel and Buffy. In fact it was a friend of ours named Antonio and Beatrice, huh?!" Nicki nodded her head up and down. "Well then that explains it then." She said. "What do you mean?" Buffy asked. "That's why he lost his soul." Chapter 10 Buffy stormed out of the library to go on patrol. "Buffy!" yelled Xander as he tried to catch up to her. Buffy just ignored him and continued on. "Buffy! Stop!!" he yelled again. She finally turned around and stopped for Xander. "Where does she think she's coming from?!!?" Buffy shouted. "Obviously from Angel's past." "Just how old is she anyways?!" "What do you think she's a vampire or something?? Trying to get in on our good side. Man what is it with vampires these days. Loosen' souls, gaining ones, lots and lots of evil ones and now there trying to put one in our midst." Xander shook his head in disbelieve. "I say we kill her." "Xander!! She is not a vampire!" "And just how do we know that?" He asked curiously. "Xander get a grip! Not everyone's a vampire! She's enrolling in our school." "Ok. Good point. But if she is one…" "She's not ok. Now, if you mind. I have to go on patrol." Buffy turned and stormed away from him. "She's got one bad temper." Chapter 11 The park was deserted and cold. Even for a Saturday night, but Buffy didn't care. She just wanted to finish her patrol and go home. It had been a long day and she defiantly didn't want to have a long night. She didn't know why she and Nicki didn't get along. Buffy wanted to, but it just didn't seem to click between them. Maybe it was because of her relationship with Angel. What ever it might have been, she didn't know. As Buffy moved through the park, she thought about how much she missed having Angel by her side helping her patrol. There were many nights that he'd helped her. Even if they didn't get much done. She didn't care. Buffy didn't know that she was being watched. She was to deep in thought to even notice. The eyes that were watching her pierced the dark. The figure blended into the dark perfectly. Only one person could do that. Angel was keeping tabs on her. Even if they weren't a couple any more. He still liked to know what and where she was. In a way, he felt something for her still. Like there was a connection or something. It was his obsession and the only way to get rid of an obsession is to kill the obsession itself. Chapter 12 Buffy continued on with her patrol into the cemetery. So far so good. Nothing out of the ordinary. Then everything went silent. No dogs barking, no wind blowing, not even a little insect tried to break the silence. Buffy knew that she was being followed and she could only imagine who it was. "Nice night." a voice said behind her. Buffy turned around quickly. There was no one there though. She turned around a few times looking for the voice. Then out of the shadows came Angel. "Well isn't it a small world. I was just thinking about you." Buffy replied. She stiffened a bit. She didn't know what he wanted, and since it was Angel, he most likely was there to fight. "So how have you been Buffy?" he said as he walked towards her. "Fine. What do you want?" "Can't we just talk?" "What about?" Buffy asked as she backed up a bit. For every step he took towards her, she'd take a step back. "Well, I just wanted you to do a favor for me." "A favor for you?!" Buffy asked a little shocked. "You're trying to kill me and my friends, you've already killed Mrs. Calendar, and now you want me to do you a favor! You truly are evil." Angel gave her a devilish grin. "Ah come on Buffy. You know you want to help. We used to be so close." He laughed. Buffy started to get fed up. There was no way she was going to help him. She was finally able to put him aside. "I would never help you." Buffy yelled at him and turned. She started to run. It was the first time she really felt scared of Angel. It wasn't like her. She turned and looked back. Angel was gone. Buffy stopped running when she reached the other side of the cemetery. She started to cry. "Buffy, get a hold of yourself." She said aloud. Buffy wiped her eyes and started to walk down the side walk towards her home. She took a few steps and turned around to make sure Angel wasn't following her. When Buffy turned back to continue on her way, Angel was standing there. She jumped back startled. "All you have to do is deliver a message to Nicki for me." "What?!" Buffy said as she started to back up. She was shaking a bit. "Tell Nicki to meet me in the cemetery in an hour." He said walking towards her. "Tell her to come alone. I need to talk with her." Angel said raising his eyebrow. "And why would I ever deliver this message?" Buffy shouted. Angel jumped at her and grabbed her throat. He walked behind her. Buffy clawed at his hands to let go. "Because I know you to well Buffy." Buffy started to cough gasping for air. "And if you don't… well you just might want to keep tabs on all of your friends." He kissed her check and shoved her to the ground. "It was nice talking to you again, Buffy." Angel said as he walked off. Buffy started to gasp for air. She coughed uncontrollably. When she got her breath back she stood up and started to run towards Nicki's house. Buffy felt tears fall down her checks as she ran. They were cool and salty. She couldn't wait to sit down and have a good cry. Chapter 13 Just as Nicki was about to lay down to go to sleep, she heard a knocking at her door. "Who could that be?" She asked herself groggily. It was already midnight and she wanted to sleep tommorrow during the day so she would be able to go to school on Monday. "This had better be good." Nicki said as she walked down the stairs. There was another knock at the door. "I'm coming, I'm coming!" Nicki shouted. She opened the door to reveal Buffy. "What do you want?" Nicki asked a little angry. "It's Angel." She said. Nicki looked wide eyed at her. She motioned her to come in. Nicki shut the door behind Buffy and offered her a seat in the living room. Buffy sat in a chair across from her. Nicki asked her what happened and Buffy told her the whole story. Nicki knew that she had been crying and felt bad for her. Angel had hurt to many people. Both dead and alive. She remembered about Drusilla. Poor Dru. "Well it looks like I'd better get dressed." Nicki said jumping up. She wanted to hurt Angel now. "Wait. Let me go with you." "Buffy no. I won't let you. You're welcome to stay here if you want, but I don't want you to follow me." "You can't stop me." Buffy said standing up to her. "If I have to strap you to a chair with chains and locks I will." Nicki said threatening her. "I'd like to see you try." Buffy replied returning the threat. "Look I don't have time for this. You're either staying here or you're going home. Pick one!" Nicki said as she turned to go upstairs. "I'm not going anywhere, but with you to see Angel." "Listen to me!! Angelus is to strong for you!" Nicki shouted at her. "And what makes you think that you can stand up to him?!!" Buffy shouted back. "Because I know him better then you do!" "Oh I'm not to sure about that! You can't stop me from going." "Yes I can." Nicki punched her in the face hoping to knock her out. Instead, it sent Buffy flying into her table. The table collapsed to the pressure of the hit. Buffy shook her head and jumped back up to fight. She threw a few punches at Nicki but missed completely. Nicki jumped in the air, spun around and kicked her in the face. This time, Buffy hit her head on the wall and fell to the ground unconscious. "Sorry Buffy, but this is my business. Not yours." Nicki said as she walked up the stairs. Chapter 14 The cemetery was damp and cool. It was a little creepy to any normal mortal, but any vampire thrived on a night like this. Angel started to pace back and forth. Nicki had five minutes before he'd leave. He hoped that she'd come. He didn't want to hurt her, just talk to her. "What do you want, Angelus?" Nicki said stepping out of the shadows. "It's about time." he said startled. Nicki walked over to him. He looked at her with piercing eyes. He looked at her face. It was a pale white and her auburn hair emphasized it. "Looks like you've had a long night. There's no color in your skin." Angel said to her touching her check. Nicki backed away from him. "You asked me here for something. What is it? I have a long week coming up and I want to go to bed." "A long week?" he asked curiously. "What do you want Angelus?" she asked crossing her arms. "Ok look, I know we started off on the wrong foot, and I want to make nice." "You want things like they used to be?" She asked curiously. "Pretty much." Nicki thought for a moment. If she did become friends with Angel again, she'd have to keep it from Buffy and the others. Especially Buffy. Maybe this would give her a chance to give him his soul back. She'd never thought about that before. There might be a spell in her book. "Ok. I'll agree." There was a short silence. "I must admit that I have missed you for a few years." Nicki said breaking the silence. "You have?" he asked. "How many?" She sighed. "At least 30." She said a little ashamed. "You know I can still remember the day that you left. I was hurt. I mean you were the only one that understood me." She smiled feeling comfortable now. She walked closer to him. "I've missed you too." He exclaimed. He put his arm around her. "You're still the same way I remember you." He leaned over and kissed her. Chapter 15 When Buffy woke up, she felt her head. There was a huge bump on her forehead. "Oww!" she said as she tried to stand up. She looked around the room. Where was she? She didn't recognize anything. She looked down at the floor. There was an old book laying underneath a pillow. She picked it up and started to flip through some of the pages. As she read some of the contents of the book, she realized what it was. It was a book of ancient magiks. Then she remembered. Nicki had knocked her unconscious to go see Angel. Buffy shut the book and ran out the door towards home. She was tired and needed to go to bed. She'd Show the book to Giles tomorrow. He'd know what the book was for. As for Nicki, she was going to have a long chat with her tomorrow. Chapter 16 The next day, Buffy went to the school to show Giles the book. He picked it up and flipped through a couple of the pages. "Extraordinary." He said as he got deeper into it. "What is it?" asked Buffy. "Huh? Oh. It's a book from the 1500's. It's on the ancient magiks of that time. I've never seen one in such good condition. Where did you get it?" "From Nicki. I found it in her house last night." Giles shut the book as Willow, Cordellia, Xander and Oz walked in. "Hey guys. What's up?" she asked jumping down off the table. "Oh not much. We were just chatting." Willow replied with a smile. "Do you want to go to the Bronze with us tonight?" she asked cheerfully. Back at Nicki's house she was trying to get to sleep, but she couldn't stop thinking about everything that's happened. Angel's kiss, the fight with Buffy. 'If they only knew.' Nicki thought to herself as she drifted off. The End Coming Soon Secrets
