Thinking about getting a tan?
Here's a few Tanning tips from the Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPRS)
- Do not intentionally tan, either outdoors or using indoor tanning beds and sunlamps. If you choose to tan use indoor tanning facilities, following safty guidelines, such as limiting exposure time to 10 to 15 minutes wearing eye goggles
- Thirty minutes before going outside, apply a sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 15. Reapply sunscreeen every two hours and after swimming. (Sweat-proof and waterproof sunblocks are also available).
- Outdoors, wear a wide-brimmed hat, suglasses and clothes which cover the skin.
- At the beach or pool, where the water can reflect the sun's rays, take special precautions. Use a waterproof sunblock, which blocks out rays, and whenever possible stay in the shade.
- Try to avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Some stuff regarding tanning...
Skin specialists often repeat themselves, "no tan is healthy for your skin, whether
obtained at the beach or with indoor tanning lamps." According to Dr. Dennis Lynch,
of the ASPRS, "Suntanning, especially indoor tanning, has only negative heatlh
consequences, whether they are short-term effects like red, or dry and itchy skin
or longterm ones like premature wrinkles, sagging skin and skin cancers.
While skin cancers can be found on all parts of the body, Lynch says that 80 percent
appear on the the face, head or neck, where they can be disfiguring as well as dangerous.
They develop many years after exposure to ultraviolet light, but sometimes can occur in
younger people, even in their later teens and early 20s. To avoid burning, apply
sunscreen between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and don't forget to re-apply after periods of time.
