Zombie
(dir.: Lucio Fulci)
This movie is what staying up late at night, and turning your brain off is all about. It is not to say that Zombie is not enjoyable; it certainly is for a fan of horror. Toted by some as the "Godfather of Gore," Fulci delivers some of the goriest sights ever seen in a film, along with a rather dry plot. A reporter investigates the strange derelict boat that has drifted into a harbor. The owner of the boat apparently has committed suicide, and his daughter wants answers. The two team up, and set off to find the island that the boat came from. Along the way, they meet two friends, and together, they must survive the onslaught of zombies coming out of the woodworks, thanks to the insatiable curiosity of a mad scientist.
The movie must have been very scary for its time, but it is but a relic that is looked upon as a "gross-out flick," or a film for the serious Zombie-flick connoisseur. The scene in which a zombie fights a shark (guess who wins) is rather campy by today's standards. Yet, one can just sit back, and relax … the gore of the movie makes for a viewing to please any true fan of horror movies.
