'The Ending'

Once Maria got back into her uncle’s automobile she leaned her head against the cool window. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath.

Isaac slid in next to her and touched her shoulder lightly.

She turned and leaned her head upon on his shoulder.

They didn’t talk, nor did they look up when Joseph would look in his rearview mirror at them.

Absentmindedly, Maria started twirling her hand. She saw little flashes now and again, but paid it no attention. She only tightened the arm that she had wrapped around Isaac’s waist.

“Umm, Maria?” Isaac a bit nervously.

“Hmm?” She asked distantly.

“You mind not doing that?” He said in a hushed tone.

Maria started paying more attention. “Not doing what?’ She questioned, confused.

Isaac pointed to her hand, and Maria looked at it. She saw her hand twirling, opening and shutting, and allowing the spark to turn into a small flame now and again.

She smiled and closed her hand tightly. When she opened it again she handed him a tiny dark red rosebud.

He chuckled quietly and took it from her. “It’s beautiful.” He murmured against her temple.

She smiled again and brought her lips to his cheek. “Someday I’ll teach you sleight of hand.” She stated.

Isaac chuckled lightly. “It would be my honor.” He replied.

Maria grinned. And someday… She trailed off in her mind. You can teach me twist of fate.

He squeezed her gently. “Gladly.” He whispered.
