Chapter V

Maria watched as Isaac tried to show her that what she had told him wasn't bothering him. She sighed as he continued to babble inconsistently about nothing at all really.

"Isaac." She said softly.

He must not have heard her because he continued to talk as he stared up at the sky.

"Isaac." She said as she placed her hand on his shoulder. She had to get through to him. She knew what he was thinking. She heard his thoughts vibrating through out her own mind.

When he turned and looked at her finally he knew that she knew what he was feeling and thinking. He knew it when she touched his shoulder, when she had called his name, when he saw the pained expression that marked her flawless face and when he looked into her eyes. He could just sense that she knew him better than anyone else did or could.

"Isaac, please do not hide what you are thinking and feeling from me. I feel it too, you know?" She brushed her hand across his temple slightly. "You cannot hide it from me. You try but you cannot." She whispered as she stared at his temple.

Isaac took her hand and kissed her fingertips. "I'm afraid that I have already fallen in love with 'THE ONE' and I can't even be with her."

Maria withdrew her hand from his and stood up. "I will leave tomorrow and you won't have to be afraid no more." She said regretfully. She never wanted to hurt Isaac. She didn't even want him to love her. How could he? Her family had just ruined his life. She couldn't even live with that on her mind. How was he supposed to live it? How could he love her for that?

He grabbed her arm and wrist quickly. Then he stood and placed his other hand on her waist. "I don't want you to go, Maria. If you did I would only miss you more. I would miss you so much to where I would be sick and I would hurt beyond belief."

"But if I stay you know that we would never be together. Would that not hurt you too?" Maria asked cautious of his feelings and her own.

Isaac slowly placed his lips gently upon her cheek. "Maria, I want you at least close to me. We may never share the same future, but I at least will have you near me always."

Maria thought this over in her mind. True they may never share the future that all loved ones would naturally share; but at least they would be together in one way. That had to count for something, right?

Cautiously, Maria softly kissed Isaac's cheek too. "I will stay then. I want to be near you too, Isaac." She said as she smiled through her sorrow.

And Isaac smiled through his.

They sat back down in the chairs and just relished in each other's presence. They sat out there until the sky started to darken.

Saying a simple good-night they left each other and went back into their own houses with ideas about how their relationship was going to work.
