'Angel'

Jaden smile half heartedly at her friend. "I'm doing fine, Chris." She told him softly as she began to sit up on the couch.

Chris shook his head in disagreement. "Jay, I saw you yesterday in that same outfit. Get up, shower, and change already." He urged.

She shook her head and leaned up against a mound of pillows in the corner of her seat. Letting out a soft sigh she murmured, "I'm doing fine. Just leave me alone about it."

"But that's just it, you're not doing fine." Chris stated gently.

Jaden shrugged her shoulders, feigning carelessness. "It all depends on where you're standing." She muttered dryly.

Chris took her hand and gave her a stern look. "Jay, I'm standing right in front of you." He said as he looked over her again. "And you're not fine."

She tugged her hand from his. "Chris, someone had spiked my drink. And everyone is pointing the finger at Will." She voiced quietly.

Her shoulders shrugged and her eyes caughs his for a second before darting away. "All I know is that I was laying in a bed when you came pounding on the door asking if I knew where I was and what I was doing."

The look she gave him was slightly frightened, as she remembered the night that happened a week ago. Her hands stilled, and chilled slightly, instantly she gripped his tightly. "Thank you." She whispered distantly.

Chris pulled her to him and hugged her tightly. "You know I take care of you." He murmured.

Jaden nodded her head slightly.

"Just be careful of who you fall for next time, okay?" Chris asked as he pulled back.

She gave him a watery laugh. "I don't think I'm going to be falling for a very long time, Chris." She told him slowly.

After a few seconds she studied him thoughtfully. "Chris, you had already left the party way before that…. that had happened." Her gaze locked on his eyes. "Why did you come back?" She asked curiously.

"A friend of mine called me. He said that Will was talking to a few guys about the drug he was going to give you. He'd seen us together a few times, and thought that we were going out, so naturally he looked after you for me." He explained wearily.

"What friend?" Jaden asked, thinking of all the people that were at her friend's house that night. There wasn't a face there that she didn't recognize. And they all knew how close her and Chris actually was. "Who?" She asked looking back up at him.

"What does it matter who he was?" Chris asked softly. "You don't even know him. He's not around here too often."

"Chris, I want to know who helped save me." Jaden told him confidently. "I could've been raped, Chris."

Chris's eyes flashed, and his teeth bared. "Don't you think I know that, Jay?" He asked tightly as his hands clenched into fists, his knuckles turning white.

Jaden stared at him, slightly in shock. "Then tell me who helped you. I want to thank him, Chris." She was silent. "I need to." She pleaded.

After a few moments of silence Chris started to nod his head. "I'll take you to him." He told her in a barely audible tone. "If you shower and change first." He offered.

Instantly Jaden was off the couch and on her way to her room. "Kick back and relax." She called over her shoulder. "This may take a while." She stated, with laughter in her voice.

Sighing, Chris laid back on the couch and stared at the ceiling.

After an hour of waiting, Jaden re-appeared. This time dressed and her hair fixed. She smiled at him. "Don't worry I brushed too." She said laughing.

Chris laughed also. "Come on, I told him I'd come over today anyway." He said as he held his hand out to her.

Jaden nodded and grasped his hand and let him lead her to his car. She sat patiently in the seat as he started driving. "Does he know who I am?" She asked nervously.

"He's seen us around, and has asked about you a few times." Chris shrugged.

"Why would he ask about me?" Jaden asked glancing over at him nervously.

Chris shrugged again. "What guy never asks about you?" He asked.

"All the good ones." She muttered, as she crossed her arms in front of her self-consciously.

"Hey," Chris started as he turned and bumped his elbow against hers. "Stop thinking about it." He told her. "It's over. Will's gone, and he'll never be bothering you again."

"What did you do to him anyway." She questioned as she glanced in the side view mirror.

Chris shifted uncomfortably in the driver's seat. "You don't want to know." He stated simply.

Jaden nodded. Knowing not to press the subject any further, and knowing that she probably didn't want to know either.

He parked in front of a park. "He lives here?" Jaden asked looking around at the swings as she stepped out of his truck.

Chris laughed openly at her. "No, he does not live here, Jay." He replied as he took her hand and started towards a park bench where three teenagers sat and three kids played with two adults.

She figured they were all in the same family. They were all tall and on the lanky side with light hair.

Once they stepped up to the park bench all three of the teens stood up. "Tay,Zac, why don't you go help out mom and dad?" The tallest one asked kindly.

They nodded their heads after they greeted Chris and shook her hand gently.

"Hey, Chris." He said shaking his hand and trying to avoid Jaden's gaze.

"Ike." He stated. Then he looked back and forth at Jaden and Isaac. "It seems you two need to talk." He replied. "I'll go help out Zac and Tay." He murmured as he walked off.

They stood silently, staring at everything but each other.

"So?" Jaden started off.

"So," Isaac repeated. Then he stepped back. "Sorry, here sit down." He gestured towards the bench.

"Thanks." She said quietly as she sat down on the bench.

He sat down slowly next to her. "Look, I'm sorry about what Will did to you." He apologized sincerely, his eyes intent on the grass beneath his feet.

Jaden looked up at him, he was sitting with his elbows on his thighs and was looking at the ground and his hands. She shook her head sadly, "Don't be." She told him cautiously, "You stopped it. I wanted to thank you for that."

"No thanks are needed." Isaac said shrugging. "I just did what any other human would have done."

"You saved me from being raped, Ike." She said, using the name Chris had used. "I'm going to thank you for a long time for that. And not just any one would have done the same thing. I didn't hear anything about my friends stopping it. Or any of Will's friends."

Isaac looked up at her. "Just call me your angel then." He stated lightly, a faint smile crossing his lips.

Jaden laughed quietly. "I just might." She responded truthfully. "You really saved me, Ike. What can I do to repay you?" She asked softly.

He was still looking at her. "Want to go out to dinner tonight?" He asked quickly.

Then he stopped before rushing on when he saw her stricken face.. "You don't have to, if you don't want to."

Jaden smiled and quickly shook her head. "I do." She said as she touched his arm lightly. "I just wasn't expecting that to be it." She confessed.

"What were you expecting?" He asked as his eyes lit up.

Jaden shrugged her shoulders. "Anything but that." She replied. "But I'm glad it is."

Isaac nodded his head.

They talked for a few minutes after that. Discussing school, family, friends, and life in general. After a while Chris walked up to them smiling.

"Come on you two." He stated laughing. "You can quit gabbing now."

Jaden and Isaac both flushed slightly. "So it's a date?" Isaac asked as he stood up and helped her up too.

She nodded her head. Her cheeks still flushed. "It's a date." She answered. "Pick me up at my house at six." She instructed.

Isaac nodded his head also. "Okay, and Jaden?" He called as she and Chris started to walk off.

"Yeah?" She asked as she turned around.

"Thanks." He told her smiling.

She looked in his dark eyes. Then she shook her head. "No, thank you." She replied.

"Angel..."

He grinned, and then laughed quietly to himself as he watched her walk to Chris's truck and he helped her inside.

She waved at him, and he waved back.

"Ike, what'd you do for her that she thanked you?" Zac asked as he and Taylor sat back down with him on the bench.

Isaac laughed again. "I was her angel."

"Sure, Ike." Taylor replied nodding his head and rolling his eyes in disbelief.

"You sure are the funniest angel I've ever seen." Zac commented wryly.

Isaac continued to laugh. Thinking of his date that night with his angel.
