Going over last night's tension filled dinner in his mind, Isaac walked slowly towards the front door. Waving off Rosie, he answered the ringer himself.

He nearly fell flat on his face.

"Hi." The cool soft toned voice was foreign to his ears, and so was her face. But he knew those eyes!

Soft and sweet grey eyes, that could fill up with love and passion in an instant, or harden into steel under circumstances. Eyes that had seen the world in its true form long before puberty ever started.

"Hi." Isaac murmured, blushing profusely when he realized he was staring and gaping, and quite possibly drooling.

Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he shook his head. "May I help you?"

She smiled, and he was doomed. "Yes, I'm here to see Taylor and Miranda?" When he made no sign of moving, her smile weakened and she pushed back a thick lock of black hair from the dark skin of her face, "I'm Lilah, their wedding planner."

Snapping out of the trans, he stepped back from the door and allowed her room to enter. "Come in."

Smiling politely, she walked past him and Isaac got a good whiff of jasmine perfume. His heart skipped several beats. "This way, I think they're outside on the porch playing with the girls."

Lilah coughed discreetly, "Girls?"

He could feel his smile faltering, but worked hard on keeping it up. What if she doesn't like kids? Nonsense, she's a wedding planner. They're a natural part of marriages. "My daughters and sister."

An emotion flickered across her face, but vanished before he could decipher it. "Oh."

A weight suddenly landed on him from that tiny monosyllable word. Letting her walk ahead of him now, his fingers twitched and itched to touch her hair. To see if it was as smooth as it looked. Deftly, he stuffed them into his jean pockets and gritted his teeth.

This was not supposed to be happening.

Moving quickly to move the sheer curtains back that was blowing gently into the house by a gentle breeze, he smiled down at Lilah and led her out onto the porch where they watched Taylor and Randy chase after three miniature blonde's.

Though Isaac smiled at the scene, and so did Lilah, even he could feel undercurrent emotions emanating from her five feet away.

The weight became heavier.
