'Angel Charm'

"How is this all going to work out?" Taylor asked softly leaning forward slightly over the large oak desk at the calculator. He and Isaac were in the study going over bills and working their budget.
Isaac sighed, sat back, and rubbed his eyes tiredly. "We'll make it. We're doing fine, and I still have that bundle left from D." His voice cracked and then trailed off. "Also I invested some stuff a few years back." He said a second later.
Taylor's face scrunched up. "Stocks and bonds, you mean?" He questioned thoughtfully.
"Yeah." Isaac said nodding, smiling a small smile. "She was thinking about investing for the longest time, and when she…" Again he faltered, then quickly cleared his throat. "When she passed away I decided to try out her ideas." His small smile appeared again, "She was really smart about all of it."
"I bet she was, Ike." Taylor said gently, a soft smile playing on his lips. Silence encased them for a few seconds before he stood, "Come on, big bro." He said laughing lightly. "Let's get to bed, we have a big and early day tomorrow."
But Isaac shook his head. "Go on, Tay." He insisted. "I think I'm going to stay down here for a while."
Taylor eyed him carefully, "You sure?"
Isaac nodded, "Yeah, go on." He assured, forcing a weak smile to encourage his brother to leave him be.
Reluctantly, Taylor removed himself from the room and Isaac slowly stood. Looking around the room, he allowed old memories fill him. He let the smell of Dahven's perfume seep inside him; he took in a deep breath, wanting to breathe her scent again and again.
Leaning his back against one of the walls, Isaac closed his eyes tightly. Urging everything that he remembered to wrap a safety net around him. To remind him of all that he had, all that he did, and all that he would in time.
"Daddy?" A soft voice asked quietly.
The fantasy crashed around him, and reality destroyed his fragile world that he had just made. Snapping his eyes open, he stared down at his daughter. He gave her a gentle smile, "What are you doing up, baby?" He asked while taking a seat in his chair again, and motioning for her to sit on his lap.
Charm ran into his embrace and smiled contentedly when her nostrils caught the scent of his after-shave. "I just couldn't sleep, that's all." She answered yawning, while the back of her head rested against his neck and shoulder, her face curved into his chest.
Isaac chuckled lightly, "Not tired, hm?"
She shook her head tiredly, heavy with sleep. Truth was, she was tired, but she didn't want to sleep, knowing that her father would be up late in the study thinking about her mom. "Daddy?" She murmured sleepily.
   "Yes, baby?" He asked quietly.
"Do I look like mommy." She asked while another yawn attacked her, and her eyes drooped down.
Isaac looked down at her, he saw Dahven in everything that she did and was. "Yes, baby. Exactly." He said in a broken whisper.
Charm smiled faintly, "I miss her."
His response wouldn't have meant much to her then, for she was already asleep.
Picking her up, and standing again, Isaac carried her upstairs and into her room, which she shared with Angel. Placing her into her bed with exquisite care, he leaned down and kissed her forehead lightly. "Night, baby." He said so quietly that it was virtually inaudible.
"Will you sleep now, Daddy?" Angel asked when Isaac walked back to the door.
He looked at his second daughter, again his heart twisted. His two kids both resembled miniature Dahven's, almost creating fresh wounds on his heart. He nodded numbly, remembering that he hadn't answered her. "Goodnight, Angel." He murmured softly, before walking out and closing the door behind him as quietly as possible.
"You know they're both worried about you."
The voice caused him to jump. Spinning around, Isaac stared down the hall and at his youngest brother. "Mackenzie," He said in a strained voice. "I'm okay. They have nothing to worry about."
Mackenzie nodded slowly, unconvinced. "Maybe you should try and reassure them." He stated before stepping back into his room.
Shaking his head, Isaac continued on down the hallway and towards the master room. Finding safety in the room, he sighed in relief. "I'll be just fine." He remarked firmly to the framed picture on top of the TV.
Dahven's face smiled back at him, almost as if she believed his statement.
