Diana hung up the phone and followed the doctor.

“Well Mrs. Hanson, here are the x-rays. As you can see there is a small tumor right here.” He pointed to a little spot on the screen. “That compiled with stress is giving you’re daughter headaches.”

“Do you think the tumor is dangerous? Could it be cancerous?”

“That’s why we would like to keep her overnight for testing.”

“Okay.” Diana sighed. “Can I go talk to her?”

“Yeah, go ahead.”

“Hey, precious.”

“Hey, Mom.”

“They wanna keep you here overnight to do some testing.”

“Am I that sick?”

“Well, you have a little tumor right here.” She touched the spot on Cassie’s head. “They wanna do some tests so they can see if it’s cancer.”

“Cancer?”

“Yeah.”

“Mommy, if I’m sick what about the boys?”

“Well, the rest of the family can go and I’ll stay at home with you if…IF something is wrong.”

Cassie nodded seemingly taking that as an okay answer.

“Well, I’m gonna go home, grab an outfit for you and me so I can stay here or you’re father and I may take shifts.”

“No, Mom. You don’t have to be back. No need to make you sleep bad because they are running tests.”

“But I don’t mind, Cass.”

“I know…. Do whatever works best for you, Mom.”

Diana smiled and pushed Cassie’s hair out of her face. “I’ll see you tomorrow then, baby.”

Zac was pacing his room. Cassie could die. What would we do without her? She taught me to rollerblade. God Zac that's all that comes to you’re mind when you think of your older sister? She taught you how to rollerblade. She also was the first person I allowed to brush my hair.

“Sheesh!" He said frustratedly, throwing his hands in the air and letting them slap the sides of his legs. “God, just please don’t let my sister be so sick she dies.” His eyes began to tear but he wouldn’t let them fall.

It’s getting late I wonder when they’re coming home.

Zac went downstairs; Isaac was cleaning the kitchen for the third or fourth time. He quit counting when Isaac had gotten on his hands and knees and scrubbed the tiles with a toothbrush. If nothing else the kitchen was spotless.

It was weird how differently people dealt with worry. Isaac cleaned anything and everything in sight. Taylor played stupid songs on the piano and tapped on things. The girls sat quietly and watched a movie. And Dad was rocking Zoë. Not letting her alone as if she was his only link to Cassie. Mackie had been put to bed hours ago.

Then there was Zac. Wandering around aimlessly hoping for someone to comfort him.
