'Cherry Red Wine'

Watching you, baby
Watching you all the time
Watching you
Watching you all the time
Watching you destroy yourself
All you do is sit around drinking wine

“Come on. Just lemme have one more glass, Ikey,” Ali slurred.
“No. You’ve already had enough. Let’s go home and put you to bed.” Isaac sighed as he tried to coerce his fiancée into leaving the party thrown by the record label.
“No, Ikey. I’m not tired. I’m gonna go have one more glass of wine and then we can par-tay!” Ali said through garbled speech.
She started to walk away from Ike when he grabbed her arm, preventing her from hurting herself even worse.
“No, Ali. We’re leaving,” he said firmly. God, please don’t let her make a scene… thought Isaac uncomfortably.
“Fine, Mr. Party Pooper,” Ali replied as Isaac placed his arm around Ali’s shoulders and led her out of the banquet hall.

You worry me, baby
I’m sitting here wondering
Wondering what in the world can I do
You’re worrying me
You’re worrying me, baby
Sitting here wondering
What in the world can I do
We’ve got so much to live for, baby
But I can’t do nothing but sit here
And watch that wine destroy you

Later that night, Isaac sat next to his bed and watched Ali sleep off the effects of the wine, worrying about the love of his life.
“God Ali, I just don’t know what to do about you. I’m so worried. There’s not much more I can do; you won’t listen. You don’t see how badly you’re hurting yourself. We have our whole lives in front of us…” Isaac climbed into the bed and kissed Ali goodnight before falling asleep.

That’s wrong, baby…

2 Weeks Later

“Ali, please don’t go out tonight. I have a bad feeling. Please, just stay here with me.” Isaac pleaded with her as she got ready to leave.
“Ike, it’s just a night out with the girls. What could go wrong? I’ll be home before midnight,” Ali reassured him with a kiss. “I love you, honey.”
    “Are you driving?” Ike questioned.
“Of course I am, sweetie…" Ali said as she walked out the front door of the apartment.
”I love you too, Ali,” Ike said, watching her leave, “I just wish I could help you.”

I’m taking you to the doctor, darling
Maybe the doctor knows
What’s going on in your head
Maybe the doctor can help me, baby
Maybe he knows
What’s going on in your head
You see you’re gonna keep drinking that bad wine, baby
Even the grass that grows on your grave will be cherry red

Around 11:30, the phone in Isaac’s apartment rang.
    “Hello?” Isaac answered sleepily.
“Mr. Hanson?” A young male’s voice questioned.
“Speaking…” Isaac said, his whole body covered in goosebumps. No one ever called him Mr. Hanson.
“Mr. Hanson, there’s been an accident…”
    “Oh God, no….
"Your fiancée, Ali Barton, was driving drunk, and she hit an oncoming car."
"Ali, is she okay? Is she hurt?" Isaac's eyes were filled with tears as he waited for the response.
"She's in stable condition, but her blood alcohol level was dangerously high. She shouldn't have been driving."
"Oh, thank God, she's okay. Where is she?"

You see you’re gonna keep drinking that bad wine, baby
Even the grass that grows on your grave will be cherry red

Isaac reached the hospital in record time. He rushed to Ali's room and leaned on the wall outside her door to regain his composure before he went in.
The sight before his eyes broke his heart. Lying on the hospital bed with both arms in casts, Ali looked so frail and weak. Isaac was forced to shut his eyes to keep from sobbing.
    "Isaac?"
He opened eyes and looked down at her. "I'm here, Ali." Isaac walked over to the side of her bed and knelt down.
"I'm so sorry, Isaac. I'm sorry. I-I-I don't want to die, Isaac. I want to get better, but I can't-I can't do it alone..." Ali lowered her head as a tear created a wet trail down her bruised cheek.
"It's okay, Ali, you're not gonna die, I promise. You're gonna get better, I know it. I'm not going to leave you. We're gonna get some help, maybe some counseling. I'm not going to let that wine take away the love of my life. I love you, Ali. And I don't want to lose you." Isaac said, gently wiping the tears from Ali's cheek.
"I love you, too, Isaac. I'm gonna stop drinking, I promise. I don't want to hurt you again," Ali said, holding Isaac's hand in hers.

We’ve got so much to live for baby
But I can’t do nothing but sit here
And watch that wine destroy you
