Chapter #16

“You know Randy’s going to be here in like the next fifteen minutes.” Isaac said looking down at his watch. He was standing in the doorway of their room, and was watching with amusement as Taylor got ready.

Or at least tried to anyway.

“I know!” He shouted in frustration. His forehead was sweaty, and his face was flushing bright red. All of a sudden he sighed loudly and flopped down onto his bed in defeat.

“I’m never gonna be ready on time.” He stated, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to get his pulse down to normal again.

Isaac laughed at him as he walked in and took a seat next to one of his younger brothers. “And here I was, thinking that you and her had gotten over that awkward stage already.”

“No.” Taylor said sulking. “Did you and Charm go through "that" awkward stage?” He asked, finally sitting up after a while.

“Actually, we kinda did.” Isaac confessed. “I mean, we were best friends first, sure. But then came the whole thing of actually dating."

“We were so used to setting each other up, and then talking about it. But how do you come home, call your best friend and describe the date you just had with them?” He asked shaking his head ‘no.’

Taylor laughed at that. “And how’d you get over it?” He questioned curiously, looking for any helpful hints.

Isaac grinned at him. “Actually, it was D’s idea. She basically said ‘let’s cut the crap and be normal. It sucks when I feel as if I may do something dumb and embarrassing out of this!’ ” He chuckled lightly, “And voila, we were magically a couple past any awkward stages.”

“Nice bedtime story.” Zac stated as he walked into the room smiling broadly at them. “Can you tell me one too now, Daddy?” He asked batting his eyes at Isaac.

“Back off, doofus.” Taylor mumbled.

Zac leaned in and put his hand against his ear. “I’m sorry, what was that?” He questioned innocently.

Taylor jumped off his bed and put Zac in a headlock. “Now you want a bedtime story?” He asked laughing.

“Yeah!” Zac shouted, laughing as well as he tried to break his brother’s hold.

Isaac refereed them, making sure that none of them would kill each other. 'Cause he’d seriously get in trouble if they did.

“Say ‘uncle.’ ” Taylor warned him after a few minutes.

Zac laughed, “Uh, uh!” He screamed. “I ain’t losin’ to a toothpick!” He claimed.

That’s when Mrs. Hanson walked in. “Boys!” She said sharply.

Instantly Taylor let his hold on Zac go, and Zac fell down onto the floor. Isaac was laughing, and Taylor was trying not to, while Zac was rubbing his sore head and elbow as he stood up.

They faced their mother grinning innocently as possible.

“Yes, Mother?” Taylor asked sweetly.

Mrs. Hanson smiled knowingly at them and shook her head. “Be quiet, the little ones are going to bed now.” She warned them.

Isaac nodded. “Okay, Mom.” He said, still smiling at her.

She gave a soft chuckle before walking out of their doorway. “Boys.” They heard her mutter as she walked down the hallway.

They fell down laughing at each other.

-

“Charm, are you sure they’re allowed to have us over at this time?” Randy asked carefully as she and Dahven walked tiredly out of the airport terminal.

Dahven laughed at that question, “Pretty sure, Randy.” She answered. “I’ve been over late a few times, and it’s only like going on nine-thirty.”

Randy shrugged, “Just that I was never allowed to have friends over like after eight. So I was just making sure it was cool with their parents and all.” She admitted shrugging her shoulders.

“Trying to make sure you are in good graces with Mr. and Mrs. Hanson, are we?” Dahven asked grinning slyly at her friend.

She sighed softly but nodded her head ‘yes.’ “I mean, they could easily tell Taylor not to see me anymore.”

With that said, Dahven stopped walking and stared at her for a moment. “Please tell me you were not serious about that comment just now?” She stated in shock.

Randy shook her head guiltily. “Charm, I’m extremely nervous, okay?” She asked. “What if I’m not good enough? What if I’m not smart enough, or pretty enough, or perfect enough?” She queried.

Dahven shook her head slowly as she started walking again. “Taylor loves you.” She replied matter-of-factly. “He wouldn’t have given you that promise ring for nothing. Besides, I know for a fact that Mrs. Hanson is taken with you.”

“Really?” Randy asked both hopeful and doubtful.

“Yes, really!” Dahven said laughing again. When they got to her car they put their bags in the backseat. “And anyway, Mrs. Hanson is saving a light supper for us when we get there.”

“Uh, oh.” Randy moaned as she slid into the passenger’s seat.

“What?” Dahven asked as she slid into the driver’s. She put the key in the ignition and started her car, and starting backing out.

She glanced over at her friend and saw her slightly green face under the streetlights. “Oh my God, are you going to be sick?”

“That’s a good possibility.” Randy got out before she stuck her head out the window.

Quickly, Dahven was searching for a public restroom. She was not going to allow Randy to hurl in her car!

Looks like we are going to be just a little bit late. Dahven thought wryly to herself as she pulled into a gas station.

Randy ran from the car, and into the tiny building, her hand over her mouth.

Dahven slowly removed herself from her car and went after her friend. This may be a long night as well.
