Chapter #21

“Whoa,” Dahven whispered as she noticed the seating arrangement. Two seats were arranged at the head of the table, only Mr. and Mrs. Hanson were sitting off to the right.

Instantly, she clutched tighter on Isaac’s arm. Her nerves were screaming and her eyes were widening.

There were something’s in life she could handle, but sitting at the head of a table just was not one of them.

That space was reserved to the “head of the family” and she and Isaac sure weren’t the head of any family… yet.

Isaac looked down at her, and then around the room to find out what spooked her. He saw it after a few glimpses around the room. He smiled and gave her a gentle nudge, trying to get her to start walking towards the table.

Once they were standing at the head, Isaac cleared his throat politely and turned to his parents. A smile stretched upon his lips; “These seats were reserved for you two.” He said before he started grinning at them.

“Ah, we figured since it was Charm’s house.” Mrs. Hanson said smiling warmly over at Dahven.

Dahven smiled back, but her arms were still wrapped tightly around Isaac’s and her fingers fidgeted with the edge of Angel’s blanket that she held in her hands.

She didn’t know why, but this night she was extremely nervous. Well, ok, she did know why. She just tried heard not to think about it.

Mr. Hanson smiled and gave Dahven a warm hug as him and his wife stood to switch seats. Mrs. Hanson did the same, giving her a warm kiss on the cheek.

Sitting down, Dahven’s cheeks were flaming and Taylor, Zac, and Randy all but pointed and giggled at her for it. Which only seemed to make it worse. Though she was smiling through the whole ordeal.

Once Angel was placed in her high chair next to Zoë’s the meal began. Rosie and Herb both bringing out the plates and the dishes and the drinks…

Ever since they had heard the news that they were getting married, and that this dinner was the announcing of the agreed date, they had insisted that it would be fancy. And oh boy, it was.

Halfway through the meal Isaac stood up and gripped tightly on Dahven’s hand. He gently tapped his knife against his water glass, and grinned at his family. “I always wanted to do that.” He stated.

That brought a few laughs form his family, but he quickly sobered up. “I guess most of you are wondering about the whole meal and all, right?”

Hearing Zac’s fake snore made Isaac smile and continue on his speech quickly. “D and I have set a date.” He announced.

“Well, when is it?” Mrs. Hanson asked excitedly.

“D?” Isaac asked smiling down at her.

Quietly, Dahven cleared her throat nervously. “April twentieth, two-thousand.” She announced.

Cheers, squeals, and laughter rang throughout the room and filling it. Hands clapping and hugs and kisses being thrown everywhere. This indeed, though of no blood related, or by law, was a family already. The Hanson family.
