Chapter #22

“D?” Isaac asked softly, his fingers gently tracing the length of a few strands of her hair.

They had just eaten lunch, and were sitting in the large library in front of a fire.

“Hmm?” She asked tiredly. She didn’t know why, but always when she stared into firelight it made her groggy and sleepy.

“That studio downstairs…” He started.

“Uh huh.” Dahven replied, her head resting comfortably in his lap.

Isaac took a deep breath. “What was that from.” He asked her.

When he felt her shoulders stiffen he hurriedly continued on as his arms wrapped around her in comfort. “I mean, what did Syrus do or miss?”

She let out a soft sigh. “I know what you mean.” She said quietly. “And he missed my sweet sixteen.” She answered, her eyes shutting tightly, refusing to ruin her day anymore.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” He asked her gently, his lips barely grazing her forehead. “About all this?”

Dahven shrugged slightly, and latched her hands onto his arms that were around her. “I didn’t want you to think that I had a lot of family problems.” She stated wearily. Hating to talk about her family’s past. “You knew enough.”

Isaac thought carefully to himself, and he accepted her answer. Her family was not one you wanted to enter, but one you wanted to leave.

He kissed the side of her forehead; “I love you.” He told her, before he leaned back against the couch he had been leaning up against.

Smiling to herself, she looked up at him, and waited for him to look at her. Once he did, he took the hint and kissed her fully on the mouth. “I love you too.” She replied before turning back to the fire.

~ The Mall ~

Randy slowly walked through the mall, Angel in her arms and Taylor at her side. Each looking for Christmas presents for their loved ones.

“So are you going back to P A or are you staying here?” Taylor asked, his voice breaking their silence.

“I’m going to go home for Christmas.” She said softly, her eyes looked up to his, curious as to what she would see.

He gave her a small smile, though his eyes were sad. “I’ll miss you.” He stated, placing his arm around her waist. Careful not to bump and disturb Angel, who seemingly was having a blast watching the lights above them as they walked.

Randy’s eyes watered slightly. “I’ll miss you.” She told him, looking over and up at him again.

Taylor was getting frustrated. Here he was in a public place, with his girlfriend, but he couldn’t show any real affection towards her because you never know who would see it, and who would talk about it.

Smiling weakly in understanding, Randy took his hand in hers and gave a gentle squeeze. Promising that they would have their time before she left for the holiday.

He tried to return her smile, but it only came out in a small thin line on his lips, he pecked her cheek.

“Now tell me about Christmas and Charm.” She said giving herself a mental shake.

Taylor shrugged his sagging shoulders. “It’s her birthday.”

“Are you serious?” Randy asked in shock. Of course, Dahven never did tell her when her birthday was. But come on, out of three hundred and sixty-four days out of the year, how was she supposed to guess Christmas?

“I have to get her a special gift then, it’s her birthday after all!” She nearly screamed.

He nodded nonchalantly. “Charm’s not big on her birthday. She loves celebrating everybody else’s but her own.” He told her as he stepped up to a display of snow-globes.

Picking one up, he studied it carefully. He saw the dark midnight blue painted as a background, with little glittery specks for stars and a rose of a deep dark red in the center.

Smiling, he looked over at Randy whose back was turned and staring intently at blown glass figurines. His smile turned into a grin as he hurried for the cashier. This was going to be his gift to her.
