Chapter #33

Dahven stared intently at herself in her mirror. My God, She mused quietly to herself. Has it really been a year already?

Her eyes told her that it had. Longer in fact.

She had two weeks before she would wed Isaac Hanson, and become a true member of his family. They would be their own family.

When Angel walked in to her room and grinned at her, Dahven laughed and picked her up quickly, placing her on her knee.

"So are you ready to be the flower girl next to Zoë?" She asked her little sister happily.

Angel bobbed her head up and down roughly. An excited smile placed wide upon her pudgy cheeks. "Yeah, yeah!" She squealed delightfully.

Grinning, Dahven placed her little sister back on her feet. She remembered when Angel took her first steps. She screamed loud enough to wake the dead, and then spent the next month video-taping every move she made

"One day you're going to explain to the world what a crazy person your sister was." She said as Angel looked up at her curiously.

"Sissy be cuck-koo." Was her innocent reply.

And Dahven roared with laughter, Angel joining in, though not entirely understanding why they were laughing.

"Come on girl." Dahven said as she stood up from her vanity. "Let's go see what Herb and Rosie are doing." She suggested.

Instantly Angel raised her arms up high, signaling she'd rather be carried than walk the long distance herself.

Grabbing her up into her arms, Dahven stepped out of their room, and went down the steps.

Before she even got to the bottom step, she swallowed hard. Two things were wrong with the scene that lay before her.

One, Herb was holding a letter, and with the look on his face, it was as if the envelope would burn his hand if he held it much longer.

Two… well, Julie stood in front of Rosie, and slightly to the side of Herb. Her friends pained with guilt and hesitation, while Dahven's face paled drastically.

Clearing her throat, Dahven finished her walk down the staircase. "Rosie," She called softly but clearly. "Could you and Herb see that Angel gets her lunch?" She asked as she started handing over the small child to her, and taking the envelope from Herb.

Nodding quickly, Rosie took Angel into her arms, and nearly had to drag Herb with her into the kitchen.

"Hello, Charm." Julie said in her normal "I'm better than you" voice. "It's great to see you again."

Ignoring her, Dahven walked into the study next to the large foyer. She sat behind a giant oak desk, her mother's portrait hanging behind her.

"Cut the chit chat, tell me why you're here," She said coolly. "And when you're leaving." She added.

Julie smiled her cat-like smile. "Why, Charm," She said laughing, "I didn't know you'd become so hard."

Dahven gave a cold smile. "People like you changed my attitude." She commented dryly. "Now talk!" She demanded.

"That envelope there, is from Arie," She said smiling triumphantly. "And I've just did what I was paid to do." She stated before she left.

Opening it, she realized that it was exactly what Julie had said. It was a letter from Arie. Only it brought no good news. He wanted Christian Courts. And her out of it.
