Chapter #4

Dahven watched as the party proceeded along with the new plans. She felt horrible though when she saw that Isaac wasn't exactly in high spirits. She heard him take the news of her not coming with stony silence.

"Think he'll forgive me?" She asked looking down at Angel's bright grey eyes.

When she saw Angel gurgle happily, Dahven laughed. "I hope so." She murmured as she watched Taylor and Mrs. Hanson coming towards the house.

Mrs. Hanson smiled as she walked in Taylor did the same.

"Cake time." Taylor announced as he helped his mother light all eighteen of the candles on the angel food cake.

Mrs. Hanson grinned at her as she took Angel up in her arms as Dahven picked up the cake.

When she walked to the door she saw that Isaac was sitting with his back to her. She grinned when the whole family smiled at her.

"Keep your eyes closed." Mr. Hanson reminded his son.

Isaac groaned. "I am, Dad. Don't worry. I'm not ruining the surprise of seeing my cake."

Mr. Hanson laughed and watched as Dahven walked carefully towards the picnic bench.

Slowly Dahven began to set the cake in front of Isaac.

"Okay open your eyes." Mr. Hanson said as he pointed his camcorder directly on Isaac.

When Isaac opened his eyes his saw his cake, and familiar hands setting the cake down slowly. He looked up into the eyes of Dahven.

Dahven gave him a small smile. "Please, don't make me go back into the garage." She said when he got up and hugged her tightly.

"It was a set up?" He asked the question, though he already knew the answer.

Giggling, Dahven nodded her head. "Tay's idea. Not mine."

Taylor stood up smiling. "It was mainly my idea, but then everyone got in on it. And Dahven was a good sport to play it out at the last minute."

Isaac tossed his head back and laughed loudly. Then he gave Taylor a big brotherly hug. "I'll get you back, man."

"I know you will." Taylor stated when he patted Isaac's back. "Happy eighteenth bro."

Mr. and Mrs. Hanson smiled proudly at their sons and watched as Zac made his way into the hug. "Hey I'm the one that drove Charm's car without crashing it. I deserve a hug too."

Laughing still, Isaac gave him a slight squeeze. "You drove D's car?" He asked suspiciously, looking over at Dahven.

Dahven shook her head. "Not my bright idea. Taylor's."

"Man, I really have to get you back for this one." Isaac commented as he too shook his head smiling.

Then he hugged Dahven to his head, giving her a gentle kiss on her cheek.

"We got to trick Ikey." Avery said giggling as Jessica just smiled and nodded.

Mackie was now sitting on Isaac's lap while Dahven took Angel into her arms as they began to eat their cake.

Mr. Hanson watched this display through his lens. He smiled a slow small smile and called over to his wife.

"Diana, look at this." He said motioning for her to look through the lens.

"At what?" She asked curiously. When she focused in on the scene she smiled the same smile that her husband held on his face.

She watched as Isaac helped Mackie keep the cake in his mouth and not on his shirt, and watched as Dahven held Angel closely to her and smile over at Isaac every once in a while, with him returning the same smile. They laughed and talked while they ate their cake, each taking turns talking with the child in the others arms at the moment.

Mrs. Hanson laughed lightly as her eyes got glassy.

"You're thinking the same thing that I am." Mr. Hanson commented as he hugged his wife affectionately.

"Yes." Mrs. Hanson whispered emotionally. "I can't help but see us, when I see them."

Mr. Hanson laughed lightly. "Maybe they'll have the same future."

"One can only hope." Mrs. Hanson said smiling as her eyes began to fill.
