Chapter #44

Dahven sat nervously in her seat. Her eyes stared blindly at the fire she started. It was unnecessary to have one, but she built it anyway. Just trying to get some warmth in her chilled body.

Her hands unconsciously rubbed the arms of her chair then rubbed against her jeans nervously.

Glancing at her watch again, she then glanced up at the large clock above the hearth. She groaned, two seconds passed. It seemed like a week had.

Insistently her fingers started fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. Twisting it around her fingers, then wringing her hands in front of her, before returning to her shirt.

When the front door opened, Dahven jumped a mile in the air, then went back to fidgeting again. She knew Isaac would catch Herb or Rosie first, asking them where she was, and how they were doing.

Counting the seconds, she waited for the door to the library to creak open, when it did, she swallowed the large lump in her throat.

Quickly she closed her eyes, and took deep breaths, when she opened her eyes again, an array of roses were in her face. She jumped again, then laughed to herself when she heard Isaac laughing at her.

Taking the bouquet into her hands, she smiled up at him while breathing in their sweet scent, before receiving a kiss from her husband.

"Rosie said you've been in here all day, and eating…" He said moving around her chair so that he could stand in front of her.

Dahven nodded her head slowly; she reached her hand out, and let him help her up from the chair. Setting the flowers in a vase with other roses, she then started leading him out of the library, passed the living room and parlor, and into the backyard.

When they reached the small fountain near the screened in pool, she set down on stone steps. Forcing him to take the seat next to her.

"Okay, D." Isaac said slowly, "You're seriously scaring me now." He told her reaching out for her hand.

She allowed him to take it. After a few minutes of not talking, Isaac got too frustrated and stood up in front of her and started pacing.

"What's going on?" He asked quietly, his eyes intently focused on the white stones that made up the steps.

"I think I'm pregnant." She whispered.

That made him stop pacing. His eyes flew to hers, to make sure she was telling the truth. But she wasn't looking at him; her gaze was locked on her hands clasped tightly around her knees.

He sat next to her, and forced her chin up with one of his knuckles. Her eyes were scared and vulnerable, and he smiled at her lovingly. Then he kissed her hard before physically lifting her off the ground and swinging her around.

"This is great, D!" He shouted laughing.

Dahven laughed in spite of all the conflicting emotions that were raging inside of her.

Once he sat her feet back down on the ground, he instantly started staring at her for any signs of the pregnancy.

She smiled at him and swatted away his hand on her belly. "I'm going to go to the doctor's tomorrow." She voiced quietly, "Just to be sure."

"What, you think that you may have taken the test wrong?" Isaac asked curiously.

Dahven giggled, "I'm pretty sure I do know how to pee on a stick, Isaac."

He chuckled, "I'd hope so." He replied grinning.

Shaking her head she looked up at him in wonder, "You're not… you're not angry?" She asked quietly. That question had been bothering her all day, but it was the answer that was going to make the difference.

He cupped her face in his hands and smiled softly down at her, then he kissed her again. "I've wanted to get married since I was a kid, D." He told her gently. "And I've wanted a family for a long time too."

She took in a deep breath, trying not to drown in all the emotions.

"I want to have a child with you." He had whispered it so quietly that she had to strain to hear him. "I want to have many children with you."

The tears escaped then, flowing freely down her cheeks, and onto his hands. She gave him a watery smile, before giving him several little kisses.

Each meaning something more.
