Chapter #7

Isaac stared down at Angel in her crib. A small green blanket wrapped around her. He saw the writing on it, and smiled to himself as he hummed softly before he gently placed his hand on her forehead, then replaced it with his lips for a gentle kiss.

Chuckling slightly, he watched as Angel yawned, and opened her eyes slightly before closing them again.

“God must have spent a little more time on you.” He half whispered half sang to her, before walking to the doorway. He silently turned off the light and started closing the door, leaving it open just a crack.

Walking down the hallway and down the stairs, a scent traveled up to Isaac’s nose. He sniffed briefly, before running towards the kitchen.

Looking for a fire extinguisher on the way.

“D!” He shouted as he entered the smoky room that was once the kitchen.

Dahven looked up from the oven, a pan of burnt bread in her hands. She gave him an innocent smile. “Oops?” She asked quietly.

Isaac laughed at her and the scene, while Dahven put the pan down and then crossed her arms and pouted.

“Not my fault.” She grumbled, “I tried to make you a birthday dinner.”

Still laughing, Isaac pulled Dahven into his arms and hugged her tightly. “Thank you.”

Dahven would’ve accepted it whole-heartedly if he weren’t still laughing about the whole thing. “If you don’t be quiet, I’m gonna throw Rosie’s spaghetti sauce out.” She threatened.

Isaac stopped laughing. “The secret sauce?” He questioned.

She nodded. Still entrapped in his arms.

“How about if I help you finish up?” He asked smiling as he leaned back slightly and looked down at her.

Dahven gave him a grateful smile. “You mean you actually want to eat the food?”

He grinned before he pecked her lips sweetly. “That is, if we can still label it as food.”

“Hey, I tried.” Dahven said shrugging her shoulders.

“I know you did.” Isaac said still grinning. “And I thank you for it.”

At that, Dahven grinned too. “Come on.” She said rolling her eyes as she grabbed his hand and led him to the mess on the stove. She pointed down at it. “Fixable?” She asked hesitantly.

Isaac stared at it. “What’d you...” He stopped though, and shook his head. “I don’t even wanna know.” He commented before he grabbed for the apron on the hook next to the stove. “I’ll show you how to fix this.” He said determinedly.

Dahven smiled at the expression on his face. It was a mixture of determination, concentration, and almost joyful and peaceful. ‘Perfection in motion.’ She decided.

-

“D, I noticed something on Angel’s blanket tonight.” Isaac stated as they sat quietly at the large table in the dining room.

Dahven looked up from her plate. “Hmm, what’d you notice?” She asked as she brought a forkful of the pasta to her mouth and ate silently. She reached for her water glass as Isaac tapped on his with his fork. “Isaac?” She said quietly after she took a sip.

He was making her nervous again.

Looking up at her, Isaac noticed that he was tapping and she was staring anxiously at him. He gave a small smile. “I saw it read ‘Angel Of Love.’ ”

“Oh, that.” Dahven said breathing a sigh of relief. She tried to give Isaac a stern glance. “You’re really into making me nervous, aren’tcha?”

Isaac laughed lightly. “I didn’t mean to.” He apologized.

Dahven nodded. “So what about her blankie?” She asked smiling, as she helped herself to another bite.

When Isaac was about to reply a loud wail irrupted from the monitor on the table.

Both of them were on their feet and running for the stairs, and then up them to Angel’s crib-side.

Though Isaac watched as Dahven lifted the tiny baby, he asked if he could hold her.

Smiling, she complied and went to get the already-made formula from the tote bag. She handed it to him and watched in silence as he went over to the rocking chair and gently lifted Angel to the bottle, and then rock her into silence.

A sudden realization hit her. She was going to marry this man. He was going to do this with their own children someday.

The thought though scary, comforted her, and made a surge of happiness and warmth spread through out her.

Of course she was going to change Angel’s name when she married. Being a Hanson meant you gave and received tons of love. Who was she to deny Angel of such a precious gift as that?

He started singing again. "Can this be true, tell me can this be real? How can I put into words what I feel? My life was complete, I thought I was whole. Why do I feel like I'm losing control? Never thought that love could feel like this. Then you changed my world with just one kiss. How can it be that right here with me. There's and angel, it's a miracle. Your love is like a river, peaceful and deep. Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep. When I look into your eyes, I know that it's true. God must have spent a little more time on you."
