Interview

…If you had to trade places with one of your brothers... Who would it be?

Taylor: Trade places...

Isaac: Well.... Actually... If we had to trade places it wouldn't be much different then before.

Zac: The only thing that would be different would be (He looks at Ike...) that I would get braces. And I would be taller...

Taylor: You'd be uglier! (laughing)

Zac: (laughing)

Isaac: Yeah! You would be uglier...hehehe... (quietly)

Post Interview

"Tay?"

"What’s up, Ike?"

"I just wanted to say, that I’m not mad at you or anything, but I really didn’t appreciate what you said tonight."

"What’s the big deal, Ike?"

"Well, it’s bad enough that you say that sort of thing to me at home, but at least then it’s in private. Tonight you did it on national television and millions of Hanson fans heard it. Not only is it embarrassing, but it hurt my feelings."

"Oh, get over it, Ike! You should feel lucky that you’re the ugly one; you’d hate have thousands of girls chasing you down and screaming in your face."

"Classic Taylor," Isaac mumbled more to himself. "Forget it Tay… my mistake."

"Quit thinking about yourself Ike- do you have any idea how hard it is to be me?!"

"Forget it, Tay!" Ike said and stalked off.

Taylor stood there watching after him in disbelief. Ike had some nerve!

"Tay, what did you do to Ike this time?"

"What are you talking about, Zac?

"Why did he lock himself in the bathroom- the only bathroom shared between the three of us?"

"I have no idea."

"Yeah right! I may be smaller and younger and a little off my rocker sometimes, but the doesn’t mean I don’t know what’s going on. You hurt his feelings- again! How could you do that to him, Tay? Don’t you have any idea how much it hurts him to hear things like that- especially from his own brother?"

"I really don’t know what the big deal is; we say stuff like that all of the time-"

"No, you say stuff like that all the time. I could never say anything so mean to Ike."

"What is the big deal with Ike?!" Taylor ranted, becoming extremely tired of talking and hearing about his homely older brother.

"He-" Zac’s statement was cut short by the yelling of another Hanson sibling.

Jessie came running into the room from her adjoining one, "Ike! Ike! Where’s Ike?"

"What’s wrong?"

"My Barbie’s head came off again and I need him to fix her."

"He’s in the bathroom"

"Here, I’ll do it." Taylor said and put his hand out to grab the doll. He was shocked when his sister quickly pulled it from his grasp. "What’s wrong now?"

"I want Ikey-poo to do it. You always do it wrong."

"It’s a doll! How can you fix it wrong?!" He questioned getting slightly annoyed.

"Ike does it better. He treats her like she’s his patient at a real doctor’s office. I don’t want to have to sue you for malpractice so I don’t want you to touch her."

With that she left her baffled brothers staring after her as she skipped to the bathroom door and banged on it. "Ike! Miss Barbie needs you again." She exclaimed.

In the background

"Where the heck did she learn about malpractice?" asked Taylor.

Zac looked at him and shrugged, "Court TV?" he offered then returned his attention to the scene that was playing out before him.

In the foreground

The bathroom door opened immediately and out popped Isaac’s hand. All the two younger Hanson brothers could see could see was the look of adoration in their sister’s eyes as her big brother proceeded to play doctor with her Barbie.

"And what seems to be the trouble this time, Miss Barbie?" Ike questioned in his play doctor’s voice.

Jessie’s eyes light up with laughter. "Been trying to put your feet up to your ears again I see. How may time do I have to tell you that you feet do not belong anywhere near your ears? When will you learn?!" Jessie giggled helplessly as her brother put on a show for her as he repaired her toy.

"All better- and remember you can’t bend in certain kinds of positions!"

Jessie hugged her doll to her. "You’re the best Ikey-poo, thanks! I love you." She declared and hugged him fiercely. She planted a kiss on his cheek then went back to her room content.

"Geez, what was the big deal about that?! So what, he talked in a stupid voice and talked to a doll like she was his patient. Whoop-dee-do!"

Zac shook his head and said nothing.

"What?!"

“Ya know, I wish you could spend one day in Ike’s shoes- just one day so you could see what it was like to be him."

"Who’d wanna be Ike?"

"I would!"

"Why in the world would you wanna be Ike?!"

"Because he’s a great older brother and I would love to be just like him. I’m so lucky to have a brother as great as Ike because this family could use a few more- seems we have a shortage." With that Zac left his brother to try and comfort Isaac.

"The little guy definitely needs to lay off of the sugar." Taylor said to himself as he lay down in his bed and began to watch British television.

"Ike?" Zac questioned at the bathroom door.

"Yeah, Zac."

Zac heard Isaac brushing his teeth.

"May I come in?"

"Yeah little buddy."

Zac came in.

"Are you to old now for me to call you little buddy? Tay was when he was your age...I don’t want to make you feel little or anything."

He smiled. "No, I’m not too old, Ike. How are you?"

"Fine, why?"

"The argument with Tay."

"No big deal. I’ll get over it I always do. He’s right anyway. I am ugly. All of our fans know it to. I guess it doesn’t matter. Tay is nice looking. So are you. You look just like him. I’m glad you don’t look like me Zac I really am. I’m glad none of the other kids look like me. Tay is right all I do is think about myself. I mean listen to me talk."

"Oh, I wanted to tell you that you did a wonderful job to day on the solo on ‘A minute with out you.’ You amaze me every time you do that. You just keep getting better and better."

Zac shook his head, No Ike, you amaze me. He thought, Only you can think of everyone else before yourself and hold all of your sorrow in you stomach and never say a word.

"Thanks, Ike. It coming from you means a lot."

Ike smiled.

It’s sad that a thank you can make Ike so happy while it would take candy and a parade in Tay’s honor sometimes to make him smile.

"Come on little buddy, let’s get ready for bed." Ike went into the main room and made sure both of his brothers were okay and then he went into his other siblings' room. He knocked on the hotel room door.

"Come in"

"You all decent?"

Two little girls giggled and Mackie opened the door.

"Ike!" He ran to his big brother and attacked his legs. Ike picked him up and put him on his shoulders.

"I thought I would come in and tuck you girls and Mackie in." Everyone ran to their beds leaving Mackie all alone.

"Who is Mackie sleeping with tonight?" Both girls didn’t say a word "Mackie buddy, wanna sleep with me?"

"Yeah!"

"Well, go on in there and I’ll be right there." Mackie ran to the adjoining door and went in closing the door behind him. Ike went over to each girl and tucked her in snugly. "You girls want a story or anything"

"Umm, if your throat isn’t to tired or anything would you mind singing to us?" Avery said meekly.

"My throat is never to tired to sing to you two."

"Tay’s is. He told me his throat is to sore after concerts to sing to us. Why is that?"

"Tay sings harder than I do." Ike lied. He knew that an audience of two for Tay was horrible, especially after he had been with close to two thousand people screaming his name.

Ike sat on Avery's’ bed and began to sing a beautiful melody that their mother would sing to him and the others.

There's a place way up high

Starry bright there, through the night there

Close your eyes

Let your wishes fly

You'll be in Dreamland, by and by

Dimpled and drowsy off you go

Over the treetops, sliding down a rainbow

Sleepy head, curled up in your bed

And 'til the sun says, rise and shine

Sleep warm in Dreamland baby mine

There's a place world’s away

Time has wings there

Green with springs there

Smiles and songs bloom on every tree

Only in Dreamland, just wait and see

Deep down inside us, a child's still there

Wishing for Dreamland, knowing that it's somewhere

Though it may seem so far away

If you believe that dreams come true

You'll find a Dreamland waiting for you

"Night girls."

"Night-night, Ikey."
