Sabrina II

The next morning Mark woke her up at six in the morning.

“Mommy, I itch all over now.” She looked at her son in the morning light he had spots on his face and arms.

“I bet you do, baby.” Sabrina got up. “You stay right here, baby.” She smiled and pulled the blankets close to his neck. 'Diana should be up.' She thought as she grabbed the phone. She dialed the phone.

“Hello?”

“Diana, this is Sabrina.”

“Sabrina, is everything all right?”

“Well, Mark has chicken pox. And I was wondering if you could either bring me some Benadril or come stay with the kids while I go and get some.”

“I have some here. Just let me bring it over.”

“Thank you so much.”

“Not a problem.”

“Bye.”

“Bye.” She hung up the phone. “Grandma Hanson is coming over to bring you something for the itch.” Mark smiled. “You try to sleep some. Don’t scratch. You want something for breakfast?”

“Can I have some cereal?”

“Sure.” She kissed him on the forehead and went downstairs. She picked up the phone and dialed the school.

“Murphy High School.”

“Hey, Karie.”

“Hello, Sabrina.”

“I can’t make it in today. Mark is sick.”

“Okay.”

“Thanks, bye.”

“Bye.” She poured cereal into a bowl and dialed Mark’s school.

“Hello, Riverbend Elementary.”

“Hello, this is Sabrina Hanson, Mark Hanson’s mother. I just wanted to tell you that he will be out for a while he has the chicken pox.”

“What grade?”

“Kindergarten.”

“Teacher.”

“Mr. Kelly.”

“All right.”

“I will probably need to collect his papers next week sometime.”

“Okay, I will make arrangements for that.”

“Thank you.”

“Your welcome.”

“Bye.”

“Bye.”

Sabrina took the cereal up to her son. He accepted it and ate while Sabrina got dressed. A few minutes later a knock on the door was heard and the door open and close.

“Sabrina, it’s me.” Diana called.

Sabrina hurried out of the bedroom and met her downstairs. “Hi, Diana.”

“Hi, Sabrina.” Diana smiled.

Sabrina definitely did not look like she had money. She was wearing Isaac’s sweatpants and her college tee and her hair was pulled up into a sloppy pony.

“This should help him with the itching.”

“You are a life saver.”

“Where is my grandson?”

“He’s up in our room in the bed eating cereal. Go ahead up there. I need to call the baby sitter and tell her that she’s not needed.”

Diana nodded and watched her daughter-in-law go towards the kitchen. She went upstairs and found Mark in bed rubbing his arms. “Hey there, big guy.”

“Grandma!” He exclaimed.

Diana gave him a big hug. "I hear you have the chicken pox.”

“Yeah…Grandma they itch.”

“I know. I brought something for you. To help with the itching. You’re mommy has it downstairs.”

As if on cue Sabrina came up the stairs with the bottle in hand, “How you feelin’?”

“Mommy, I itch.”

“I know, sit up, take off your shirt.”

Mark did as told and Sabrina put cream all over his pox. “That’s cold.”

“I know it is.” She finished putting it on him.

“Well, I’m gonna get going home. You probably won’t be at dinner tonight will you?”

“Not with him like this.”

“Okay, well then I’ll bring over some left overs for you and the kids.”

“You don’t have to but thanks.”

Diana just smiled and patted her shoulder. “You be good for your mommy.” Mark nodded and she kissed him.

“Thanks for the Benadril.”

“Not a problem. Bye.”

“Bye.”
