'The Secrets To Tell'

"I don't know what I'm going to do right now." Grace groaned. "I don't know how I'm supposed to handle and deal with everything that's happened, and everything that will be."
Bru nodded sympathetically. "You know, pretty soon you're going to be getting another letter from Emma."
Rolling her eyes, Grace stood up, and walked around the miniscule office. "Bru, no offense to Em or anything, but I'm still trying to get over that first one."
Smiling at her comment, Bru leaned back in his chair. "Isaac brought over a blood sample of Zoë's." He informed gently. "They're running a DNA test, between him and her right now."
Grace frowned, "I thought you could only do it against the parents."
Bru shook his head, "no. If their DNA code is close enough together, it could prove that they are siblings."
"How soon would we know the answers?" She questioned slowly, moving back to her chair.
"Maybe a couple of days." Bru shrugged, "I know, to you and to the Hanson's, this is important, Grace." He started quickly when he saw her indignation, "but there are other tests that they're running now, that are for the police, and yours is just not on top of the list."
Nodding in understanding, Grace sighed and stood up again. "I know, and I understand, Bru." She answered lightly, her smile weak and drawn. "It's just, like you said, this is important to us."
Turning to pick up her purse she laughed tiredly, "you know, I keep wondering what happened, ya know? How this all came about? I just can't seem to picture Em pregnant, let alone giving up her child, when she was so protective of me sometimes…"
Shaking her head, hoping to dislodge the doubts and questions, Grace turned back and shrugged.
"You just have to wait for the answers." Bru replied honestly. "They'll come."
Grace laughed again, "I don't seem to have the luxury of choice here."
Shrugging again, she wiggled her fingers and moved to walk out. "You know, she really did love you, Grace." Bru admitted gently. "Her daughter too."
Freezing for a moment, Grace nodded jerkily then left. Closing the door quietly behind her.
Pressing her trembling hand against her trembling lips, Grace tried to suck in as many breaths as she could to steady herself.
She moved on only when she felt as if her knees wouldn't give out on her. She shrieked and stumbled though when her cell phone started ringing, and the Lone Ranger's theme song sounded off.
Catching her breath, she forced a smile to try and act cheerful. "Hello?"
Her breath rushed out, "Zac! At Bru's. Nah, he said it'd take a while." She shrugged and continued walking down the hall and outside.
"I might be talked into doing something. As long as no conversations of family or friends interrupt our time together."
She laughed then. "That'd be perfect, Zac. Pool it is. I'll cream ya this time too! See ya soon."
Closing the connection, Grace dug through her purse for her keys and screamed when a hand pressed up against her back before she was pushed into the door of her car.
Struggling against the attacker, Grace tried to mentally visualize the moves her self-defense instructor taught her when she was twelve.
"Miss me, Gracie?" A voice rasped in her ear.
Her struggles ceased. "Brent?" She asked weakly.
