Chapter 1: New Beginnings

"It's taken time, but I've finally found my heart I found it ripped in two
Baby I don't know, how I live my life If I have to live it, without you
I know we said things, that we didn't really mean
And now we've made it, harder than it should be
But if we try, I know we can make it through
Cuz baby I know I'm head over heel's for you" Kayla cringed as she hit a wrong note on you.

"God Kay! can't you ever sing that right?" Jaymi, her identical twin sister yelled at her.

"I'm sorry! I'm just having a bad day! gimmie a break will ya?" Kayla mumbled. She hated it when people yelled at her. Jaymi sighed and set down her acoustic guitar.

"Well, we have to make it perfect if we want to get on the show!" Jaymi exclaimed. The girls were going to audition for a local T.V show where anyone could go on and perform, then be judged and then if they won, get a prize. If you sang then it would be a record deal, if you played an instrument then you would get a new one, and it would be the best you could get etc. Suddenly Kayla changed the subject.

"Do you think Dad will come see us if we get on the show?" She asked her sister. Jaymi, who had been tightening a sting on her guitar, looked at her sister. "Why would you ask something like that? Of course he wouldn't!" she snapped. Kayla looked down at the tape recorder in her hand. She noticed that it had been recording the conversation. She pressed stop and then rewound the tape. "I just thought-" She started to say but Jaymi cut her off.

"Well, you thought wrong Kay! That asshole doesn't want anything to do with us! I highly doubt that he would show up if we got on the show!"

"But you could be wrong! Jaymi, he might just hear about it and want to see us!"

"No Kayla.. that's where your wrong again! Why do you always defend him? after everything he has done?" Jaymi sometimes couldn't understand her twin.

"I don't always defend him!" Kayla cried, tears threatening to spill over her cheeks.

"You do!" Jaymi exclaimed. The twins father had left the family a few years ago, choosing alcohol over them. They had seen him for a few years after the break up between their mother and him, but gradually the visits got less and less, as did the phone calls. Eventually they stopped seeing him altogether. The twins hadn't seen him for about 6 months now and were just starting to get used to the fact that he wanted nothing to do with them. Jaymi was very bitter towards her father as she had been closer to him out of her and Kayla. They both had gotten their brown hair from him, which was long and wavy on the girls. They had grey-blue eyes and fairly clear complexions. They were fairly short, only standing at 5'5" and they were happy with their figures which were slim. Jaymi was the more out-going twin, who always spoke what was on her mind, no matter who or what she hurt. She was the youngest of the two but only by two minutes. Kayla was more soft spoken and didn't say much around someone she didn't know. She mostly let Jaymi talk. The twins were very protective over each other and were each others best friend. Jaymi and Kayla were home schooled, so they didn't have many friends. The few friends they did have all were madly in love with their older brother Malcom. Malcom had the same brown hair and blue-grey eye's as the twin's, only his hair came to just below his chin. He was 17, two years older than the twins, who were 15. He was tall, standing at 5'9". He was very protective of his younger sisters, and being home schooled with them made him become very close to the twins to. Malcom was very into sports. He had inherited that from his father. The twins had gotten their love of music from their mother. The twins father still wanted to see Malcom but he refused to see him. Malcom hated what his father was doing to his little sisters.

"So what if I do? Jaymi he's our father... we can't just give up on him!" Kayla said, the tears spilling down over her cheeks. Jaymi sighed and got up from the chair she was sitting in and hugged Kayla.

"I'm sorry Kay... I just hate him for what he's doing to us. He call's Malcom all the time and that hurts. Let's not talk about this anymore... we still need to practice you know" Jaymi said. Kayla nodded and wiped her face. "Ok, take it from the top" she said.

"ZAC I'M GONNA KICK YOUR DAMN ASS!" Taylor yelled as he emerged from the hotel bathroom, dressed but he had a towel wrapped around his head. Zac looked up from the magnetic chess board that he and Isaac were playing chess on.

"What did I do now?" he asked, getting up and slowly making his way to the door. Zac had a feeling that he knew why his brother was yelling. Taylor grabbed his little brother buy the collar of the shirt and stopped him from going anywhere.

"You know what you did!" Taylor hissed, yanking the towel off his head. Taylor's normally blonde hair was now a shade of bright blue. Isaac took one look and cracked up.

"Hey Tay... did you know that your hair's blue?" Isaac asked, pointing at Taylor's head. Taylor glared at him.

"Gee Ike, your powers of observation just amaze me!" He snapped. Isaac's response was to laugh harder.

"Wow I didn't know that it would work that good!" Zac exclaimed, picking up a wet strand of Taylor's hair and examined his handiwork.

So it was you! why the hell did you do this?" Taylor yelled again.

"Well you embarrassed me on Letterman!" Zac yelled back. "What? how?"

"You told everyone that I pick my nose!" Zac shouted, loud enough for the whole country to hear. Isaac, who had kind of calmed down, immediately cracked up again.

"IKE SHUT UP!" Both Taylor and Zac yelled at Isaac. Isaac got up from the chair that he was sitting on and went over to one of the beds. There he stuffed his head between two pillows and stayed like that until he had calmed down alittle.

"Zac, we have a show to do tomorrow and look at me! I can't go looking like this!" Taylor cried, letting go of Zac and pointing at his head with both hands. Zac saw his chance to escape. He darted out of the room yelling. "Sorry, gotta go!". Taylor sighed and marched out of the room. He went down the hall and rapped his knuckles on his parents door yelling.

"YOU ARE GOING TO BE SHORT ONE SON BY THE END OF TODAY!". Mrs. Hanson answered the door with a confused look on her face. Once she saw Taylor's hair, her mouth dropped open.

"What on earth did you do to your hair?" Mrs. Hanson asked as she reached out to examine her son's blue hair.

"I didn't do it, Zac did!" Taylor said angrily as he stormed into his parent's room. "How did he do it?" Mrs. Hanson asked. Taylor shrugged.

"He must have put food dye in my shampoo or something!"

"And where is Zac now?" Mrs. Hanson asked. Once again, Taylor shrugged.

"Mom, what am I going to do? We have to do a show tomorrow and I can't go on with blue hair! I swear I'm gonna kill Zac"

"You're not going to kill your little brother. Here, take this and wash your hair again, if it doesn't work then you'll just have to wear a cap and tie your hair back, it won't be so noticeable. And don't think Zac is going to get out of this. Your father and I will talk to him tonight" Mrs. Hanson said, handing him a new bottle of shampoo. Taylor mumbled thanks and then slowly returned to the room that he, Isaac and Zac were sharing. Taylor vowed to himself that Zac wouldn't get away with this.

------------------------------------------

Kayla looked around her spacious and neat room and sighed. Her wall's were covered with posters of various bands. Her favourite band was Hanson. Hanson was Jaymi's favourite band to. The twin's mother, Julia Bennet, had been friends with Diane Hanson when the two were in High School. The twin's lived in Tulsa and had met Isaac, Taylor and Zac, but weren't good friends with them. The twins had last seen the guy's before they had gone to L.A to record "Middle Of Nowhere". Mrs. Bennet and Mrs. Hanson spoke on the phone and wrote to each other often and hoped that the five teenagers would become good friends.

"Kay... I'm goin outside.., you wanna come?" Jaymi asked, sticking her head through Kayla's doorway. Kayla nodded. There wasn't much the twin's didn't do together. Of course they did all their personal things like getting dressed, going to the bathroom and showering by themselves, they weren't that close, but if one went outside then she would see if her sister wanted to come. Kayla ran a brush through her long hair and then joined Jaymi on their front lawn. It was summer and it was a perfect day. The twins sat down and stretched their legs out, in hopes that they would tan and not burn.

"Are we gonna do Head over Heel's for the show or what?" Kayla asked as she brushed an ant off her leg. Jaymi shrugged.

"We could do a different one... or we could even write a new song"

"We could do that... I can't be stuffed writing a new song... Head over Heel's is new enough" Kayla said.

"KAYLA! JAYMI! OVER HERE!" a female voice yelled out from down the street. The voice belonged to one of the twin's friends, Denise. Jaymi and Kayla stood up and waved.

"I wonder who her latest is?" Jaymi said quietly to Kayla. Denise had her arms around a tall, gorgeous guy. "Hi Denise!" Jaymi said, giving her a smile. Kayla smiled. "Hi Denise" she said quietly.

"Hey guy's... this is Thomas... he's here from Australia!... he's here for our whole summer!" Denise said.

"Hey Tom... where in Australia do you come from?" Jaymi asked. Thomas frowned at her.

"First of all, it's Thomas and I'm from Sydney in New South Wales" Thomas replied. *Authors note: Australian's aren't that snobby... we just made Thomas snobby cuz some aussies can be snobby at times... but then again, everyone can be snobby at times :c)* Jaymi rolled her eye's.

"Sorry Thomas" she said. Denise glared at her but Kayla could tell that Jaymi didn't really care. "Listen, I've got some stuff to do inside... I'll see ya round" Jaymi said. She turned on her heel and walked back inside.

"What flew up her ass?" Denise asked as soon as Jaymi was inside and out of earshot. Kayla shrugged.

"We've been practising our new song a lot and I keep hitting the wrong note on a word... I guess she's just frustrated with that" Kayla said.

"Well, you can tell her that she's no better than the rest of us and let her know that her shit does stink!" Denise said hotly and then walked off. Kayla smiled and then walked back inside to the kitchen. There she found Jaymi sitting at the table reading a newspaper.

"Your shit stinks and you're no better than the rest of us" Kayla said as she took a juice box out of the refrigerator.

"Excuse me?" Jaymi said, looking up from the article she was reading. Kayla sat down across from her sister.

"Denise told me to tell you" Kayla said, smiling sweetly at her twin. Jaymi mimicked the smile and then frowned.

"Denise is just a bitch. She's so stuck up that she has to put a toothbrush up her ass to brush her teeth" Jaymi said. Kayla burst into giggles.

"That's a good one... where did you hear it?" Kayla asked.

"I heard Malcom say it about Leann" Jaymi replied, referring to Malcom's ex-girlfriend.

"Oh.. right" Kayla said. The twins got up and went into the den, where they put on one of their all time favourite movies "The Never Ending Story".
