"I am not looking forward to this" Jaymi mumbled as she and Kayla walked to school. The boy's had been gone for a week and the twins missed them- a lot.
"And you think I am?... how are you feeling?"
"Same as usual... I just wish Ike was here to help me" Jaymi said. Kayla new about Jaymi's miscarriage and every day she had been asking her sister how she was feeling. The twins neared the front gates of the school and hung back, watching other students greet each other after a summer of not seeing each other. Everyone seemed to know everyone else. "Well, we better get in there I spose'"
"Yeah... come on" Kayla said. The twins walked in and they could feel the eye's of curious students watching them as they walked to the double doors that lead into the school.
"Hi.. I'm Amanda... Mandy for short... you guy's are new here aren't you?" Mandy asked as she fell into step beside Kayla.
"Yeah... we're new" Jaymi said. Knowing that Kayla would shy away.
"What's your names?" Mandy asked.
"I'm Jaymi and this is Kayla" Jaymi said. Kayla smiled a greeting.
"Oh, well, great to meet you guy's... hey, you're twins right?"
"Yep" Kayla said. Mandy laughed.
"So, she talks! I was beginning to think that you were some sort of clone" Mandy said.
"I talk... I just get shy easily" Kayla said. Mandy went with the twins to get their timetables and discovered that Kayla had been put in the same homeroom.
"Ok... we just need to work on 'Look At You' just a little more..." Taylor said. They were at a sound check and all three boy's had their minds on things other than music. They ran through 'Look At You' and then they were able to go back to their hotel room.
"I've got the phone!" Zac yelled, making a mad dash for the phone once he had stepped through the door.
"No way! I told Kayla I'd call her!" Taylor yelled back, grabbing the back of Zac's shirt to pull him away. Zac struggled against Taylor's hold and finally broke free. He got to the phone first and started dialling C.J's number. Taylor groaned and smacked Zac across the back of his head. Zac whirled around.
"Fuck off!" He hissed. "What?... oh, no Mrs. Appleton... not you... sorry... um, is C.J there?...thanks" Zac said. Both Isaac and Taylor cracked up. "Hi! how are you?.....Im great...I miss you guys though......really? cool...so you like the school? that's good.....ok um C.J....can I ask you something?...great, just hang on a sec..." Zac turned to his brothers, who were listening to every word of Zac's conversation. He covered the mouth piece of the phone. "Could you guy's piss off?" He asked them.
"Nope" Isaac said, looking at Taylor. Both boy's grinned and stayed put.
"Come on guys! just five minutes!" Zac cried. Taylor looked like he was thinking it over, he looked at Isaac and then smiled.
"Ok, but you have to be our slave for the next week."
"What?... no way"
"Well we're stayin then..." Isaac said. Zac groaned.
"Ok ok... now will you leave?". Isaac and Taylor got up and silently walked out of the room. Zac sighed with relief. "You there?" Zac asked.
"Yep... what did you want to ask me?" C.J asked. Zac suddenly grew nervous and his palms became sweaty.
"I know this would be better face to face but I can't wait that long to ask you this so the phone will have to do. Now, you can say no if you really want to but I would like it if you said yes and-"
"Zac... just ask me already!" C.J said. Zac took a deep breath.
"Ok... well, ahh crap... how do I say this?... ok um... I know we haven't had the best history between us as friendship goes... but the last couple of weeks I think we've become pretty good friends and I-"
"Ok! Time's up!" Taylor announced as he and Isaac walked into the room again. Zac looked at his watch.
"No it's not! I still have two minutes!" He protested. Taylor and Isaac shrugged.
"Well, it will be another week.." Taylor told him. Zac rolled her eyes, then nodded. The two walked out again.
"Remember! two minutes!" Isaac called out over his shoulder.
"Ok, now where was I?" Zac asked C.J. She laughed.
"You said something about us becoming pretty good friends..."
"Oh yeah... well, um... C.J... would- would-"
"Zac just get it out before your brothers come back"
"Ok... C.J would you be my girlfriend?" Zac couldn't believe how much he sounded like an idiot. C.J was silent. "C.J?"
"I'm just thinking about the millions of girls who are going to kill me... and that's just at my school! but yes... I will be your girlfriend" C.J said.
"Really? that's great!... I uh mean, great... man that was hard"
"Yeah... you do realize that we are both still twelve" C.J said.
"Yeah so?... we're gonna turn thirteen soon anyway" Zac replied just as Taylor and Isaac came walking back into the room.
"Anyway C.J, I gotta go. Mom wants us to rest before the show tonight...We're meeting some fans that won some competition so I'll call you soon ok?"
"Yep... ok... have fun meeting those fans" C.J replied. Zac laughed.
"Oh yeah.. sure... ok.. well, bye"
"Bye Zac" C.J said and hung up the phone.
----------------------------------------------------
"C.J! Come sit with us!" Jenelle yelled out from across the cafeteria. C.J looked at the group of people sitting around the tables that had been pushed together. She didn't know half of them so she hesitated. She then spotted Vanessa, one of the few new friends she had made, sitting by herself. C.J ignored Jenelle and walked over to Vanessa.
"Hey... is it alright if I sit here?" C.J asked.
"Of course it is... I'm just waiting for Amy. I heard Jenelle yell out to you... why didn't you go sit with her and the others?" Vanessa asked. C.J wrinkled her nose.
"Sit with a bunch of snobs and their boyfriends? no thanks."
"I see what you mean. Jenelle's not gonna be happy that you chose to sit with me and Amy and not her... you better watchout C.J" Vanessa warned. C.J laughed.
"What's the most she can do? Zap me with her hair dryer after gym class? Come on Van... I'm not afraid of someone who is the same size, age and weight. If she was any bigger then I might consider being scared." C.J said as she unwrapped her sandwich.
"I know shes not all that scary...but she does have alot of friends...it's just better to be on her good side..if you know what I mean." Vanessa commented. C.J raised an eye-brow.
"You mean if I don't want to be that snob's friend, she'll get me bashed or something? HA! I'd like to see them try..I have friends to Vanessa...bigger and older than that bunch over there..so I have nothing to worry about!" C.J told her. She looked up from hersandwich as Amy plonked herself into a chair next to C.J.
"Hi guys!" She said brightly. Amy was always happy. "Whatcha's talkin' 'bout?" She asked.
"Jenelle invited C.J to go sit with her and the others" Vanessa said. Amy's mouth dropped open.
"And you didn't go? what's wrong with you girl?" Amy asked. C.J shrugged.
"I don't really like Jenelle... and I don't know the others... besides, you guy's are my friends. Not them" C.J said. C.J hoped she had convinced Vanessa that she wasn't afraid of Jenelle and her friends. But deep down, she had her worries.
