Mixed Messages

A week later Jaymi and Taylor were sitting alone in Taylor's living room on the couch, talking about nothing.

"Don't you believe in playing music or something?" Jaymi asked.

"Huh?"

"It's so quiet in here... you could put on a CD you know" Jaymi replied.

"Oh, right... well, what CD?" Taylor asked, getting up and walking over to the CD collection. Jaymi got up and walked over to Taylor. She rested her hand on his shoulder as she looked over his shoulder to examine the CD's. Yes! Taylor thought. The more he talked and looked at Jaymi, the more he liked her. He was proud of the fact that he had managed to keep his "crush" a secret from his family.

"The Wiggles?" Jaymi asked, holding up the CD and smiling. Taylor blushed slightly and took the CD from Jaymi's hand.

"It's Avery's" He said.

"Yeah right" Jaymi said laughing. They finally found a decent CD and put it on. Jaymi turned the volume down kinda low so that they could still talk and hear the music.

"You ever kissed anyone before?" Jaymi asked suddenly. Taylor was surprised at how easily the question had come out of Jaymi's mouth.

"Of course!" Taylor responded, letting his eye's travel to Jaymi's shapely legs.

"Not just a peck, I mean like a full on pash... tongues and all" Jaymi said. Taylor looked down at his jeans

"Well, not exactly" He said quietly. Jaymi moved closer to Taylor.

"How did you kiss... like this?" Jaymi asked, leaning forward she gave Taylor a few small, teasing kisses on his lips. She then pulled back. "Or like this?" she said, leaning forward again she rested her lips on Taylor's and slowly opened her mouth. She ran her tongue along Taylor's lips and then he opened his mouth. The kiss was long and lingering and Taylor loved it. He wondered if Jaymi was enjoying the kiss as much as he was. When Jaymi finally pulled away Taylor was grinning from ear to ear. "Which one was it?" Jaymi asked.

"What?" Taylor asked. Jaymi laughed.

"Never mind." she said just as Taylor leaned toward Jaymi and gently pressed his lips to hers. While the two were kissing, Taylor was fully aware that any member of his family could walk in at any second... and that was enough to make him stop.

"What's wrong?" Jaymi asked as Taylor pulled away.

"Nothing... it's just that we're not alone" Taylor said.

"Sure we are... there's no one here" Jaymi said, laughing a little. Taylor shook his head.

"No... I meant we're not alone in the house... there are members of my family floating around and they could catch us" Taylor explained. Jaymi sighed.

"Ok.. I should get going anyway. Kayla and I have to go shopping for mom's birthday present" Jaymi said, getting up. Taylor got up and followed Jaymi to the front door. "Bye Tay... I had a good time today" she said giving Taylor a small hug. She then turned around and started walking home. Taylor was disappointed that she didn't kiss him goodbye and he wasn't sure of what was going on between them. Taylor went up to his room and found Isaac mucking around on his guitar.

"What's with you? You look like you did that time that fan came running up to you shrieking iloveyou iloveyou iloveyou... kissed you and then ran off. So what gives?" Isaac asked after seeing his brothers love struck expression.

"Nothing that's your business Chewy" Taylor responded as he jumped onto his bed and laid his head on the pillow. He suddenly sprang up and walked over to one of the desks in the room. He sat down and started to write furiously.

"What are you doing?" Isaac asked as he watched his brother write.

"Nothing.. piss off" Taylor said, covering his paper as Isaac walked over and looked over Taylor's shoulder. Isaac shrugged. Thinking that his brother had gone off the deep end he sat down on Taylor's bed and picked up the book he was currently reading. Taylor finished what he was writing, folded it up and stuffed it in his pocket.

A few hours later Kayla was sitting in the living room when the door bell rang. She got up and went to answer it. Taylor was standing on her door step.

"Tay... what are you doing here? we aren't going until this afternoon" Kayla said in surprise. Taylor had promised that he would help Kayla pick out a new pair of roller blades and they were going that afternoon. Taylor looked slightly uncomfortable and Kayla wondered why.

"Yeah, I know... hey, is Jaymi around?" Taylor asked.

"Uhh... no she's out with some friends of hers..." Kayla said slowly.

"Well, in that case, could you give this to her for me?" Taylor asked, holding out an envelope with Jaymi's name printed on the top.

"Sure" Kayla said, slowly taking the letter from Taylor's hand.

"Thanks... well, I just came by to give Jaymi that... we still on for later?"

"Yeah... sure thing"

"Great... see ya" Taylor said as he turned and started walking away. Kayla closed the door and raced up to her room. She sat down at her desk and picked up her letter opener. She carefully slit open the side of the envelope and took out the letter. She unfolded it and read:

Dear Jaymi,
Taylor here. I don't know why I'm writing this but I guess I'm to much of a chicken to tell you this face to face. I like you Jaymi... alot and today when you kissed me I kinda got the idea that you liked me to but I'm not sure. This is where you come in... I want you to let me know if you like me in that way by wearing the clips that I gave Kayla for her thirteenth birthday the next time you know you're going to be seeing me. Or if you really want to then you can just tell me how you feel.

Love
Taylor.

By the time Kayla had finished reading the letter, tears were streaming down her face. She liked Taylor but he liked Jaymi... and so did Isaac. Isaac had told her the day the twins auditioned to get on the show. Kayla re-read the note and burst into tears again. That tramp Jaymi had kissed Taylor.

"How could she do this?" Kayla cried. Then she remembered that Jaymi didn't know about Kayla liking Taylor. Jaymi could use that against her if Kayla started screaming at her sister the minute she got home. At that moment Kayla felt nothing but hate for Jaymi and she had no intention on giving Jaymi Taylor's note.

-------------------------------------

"Isaac! hey Ike! OVER HERE!" Jaymi yelled out as she spotted her friend. Isaac looked over and saw Jaymi sitting with two other girls. He started walking towards them and Jaymi got up from her seat. She met up with him halfway and gave him a friendly hug. "Hey.. fancy seeing you here" Jaymi said. She looked over her shoulder and waved to her friends. She then started walking in the direction that Isaac had come.

"Yeah... who were they?" Isaac asked.

"Casey and Melanie... they're talking about their boyfriends non-stop and it's driving me crazy... you don't mind if I walk around with you do you?" Jaymi asked.

"Nope... fine with me" Isaac said, trying to contain his happiness. The two walked around the mall for a while and then Isaac offered Jaymi a ride home when she discovered that she had no money for a bus ticket.

"Thanks for this" Jaymi said as they got into Isaac's car.

"It's ok" Isaac said. He started the engine and pulled out of the parking space.

"I don't really want to go home... not yet anyway... why don't we go see a movie?" Jaymi asked, bouncing up and down in her seat.

"I thought you didn't have any money" Isaac said laughing.

"Yeah, but you do" Jaymi said, giving Isaac a smile.

"Ahhh... so I'm paying is that right?" Isaac asked as he drove in the direction of the movie theatre.

"Yep and I get to pick the movie cause you get the privilege of paying... it's only fair"

"Is it?... well what movie do you want to see?"

"Wild Things... it's supposed to be really good. Casey saw it yesterday" Jaymi said as she smiled at a cute boy that they passed who was standing on the street.

"I've seen that... but I don't mind sitting through it again if you really want to see it" Isaac said. He pulled into a parking space at the movies and they got out of the car. They walked inside and Isaac paid for the tickets. They waited for about half an hour to get into the theatre and when they got in, Jaymi headed for the back.

"The movie is so much better when you don't have someone's big head in the way" Jaymi said as she sat down in the middle seat in the row. Isaac sat down next to her and agreed. Jaymi started kicking the back of the empty seat infront of her. She then sat up straight and peered down at the people who were now entering the theatre. She then slumped down in her seat as far as she could go.

"What's wrong?" Isaac asked.

"Beth is down there!" Jaymi said as if Isaac should have known.

"Oh, ok... who's Beth?" Isaac asked.

"Shhhh! not so damn loud!. She's this really annoying girl who can talk your ear off if you let her" Jaymi said, her voice sounding funny because she was sitting so far down in the seat. She stayed like that until the lights went down.
