Hominids

Large hair-covered man-like characters abound in the folklore, legends, and oral history
of Native American tribes across North America. From the well known "Sasquatch" of the Coast Salish in the Pacific Northwest, to the "Stoneclad" man of the Cherokee, giant hominids abound in tribal lore. Some are seen purely as spiritual beings, some are seen as minor gods, and some are seen as flesh and blood animals.

It is possible that the Windigo is also a member of this family. Sightings and myths of these creatures are not isolated to North America, there are the Almas of Mongolian, the Yetis of tibet, and the Yowie of Australia.
