kennedy
Kennedy arrives with the first group of potential slayers and is immediately taken with Willow. She is the oldest of all the potentials and reveals that she has had some training. She comes from a wealthy New York family and has a step-sister. She engages in a relationship with Willow and easily steps into her roll as leader of the potentials. She is stubborn and somewhat bossy. In the final battle, she helps Willow with her spell to give all the potentials the powers of a slayer and becomes a slayer herself. She manages to survive the fight and leaves Sunnydale with Willow and the rest of the gang.
Eve: No matter how many there are, one of us is gonna be the next slayer, with the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Chloe: It won't be me. I mean, not now. I mean, I'm too young.
Kennedy: Doesn't work that way. In fact, the younger, the better. In fact, I'm starting to think it might be too late for me.
molly
Molly is also among the first three potentials that was brought to Sunnydale from England by Giles. She is from England. She stays with the group and helps some of the other potentials adjust. Unfortunately she is killed in the fight at the winery by Caleb in "dirty girls".
Molly: Oh, crossbow! Gotta love it… feels like I’m stormin’ a castle.
Rona: You do a lot of that, do you?
Molly: I might if I had a beauty like this.
annabelle
Annabelle is the third of the original three slayers to arrive in Sunnydale. She is an upper-class British vegetarian who at first seems to put all her trust in Buffy. But her fear gets the better of her and runs away from Buffy's house, straight into a Turok-han. She is killed before Buffy manages to track her down. Her death serves as a lesson to the other potentials.
Annabelle: We'll be armed when the slayer feels we're ready.
Molly: I feel ready.
Annabelle: You're frightened. You must learn to control your fear.
Kennedy: Hey, you know what would help with that? Weapons.
Buffy: Uh, I don't know about that...
Kennedy: We're sitting ducks without them.
Annabelle: We're with the slayer. Safe as houses.
Kennedy: Do you see the house we're in?
eve
Eve is one of the unfortunate potentials that never actually makes it to Buffy. She gets as far as the Sunnydale motel before the bringers kill her. The first uses her form to infiltrate the potentials. By posing as Eve, it can plant seeds of doubt in the rest of the slayers in training.
Eve: She's right. And what are we supposed to do about it? I mean, I've never seen a real vampire in my whole life, much less slayed one.
Vi: I've seen one. Well, my watcher once showed me a photograph of one. A blurry photograph.
Eve: That's what I'm saying. Not one of us is remotely prepared to be activated as a new chosen one.
rona
Rona arrives by bus to Sunnydale in the episode "Showtime". She never knew anything about being a potential slayer until she was attacked by the Bringers. She is somewhat argumentative and has a hard time accepting her destiny. Her arm is broken during the fight with Caleb and although she is badly injured in the final battle, she survives.
Spike: Okay, these two are dead. Why?
Rona: ’Cause the black chick always gets it first?
Buffy: What was that, Rona?
Rona: I’m dead because he’s a vampire. I don’t have Slayer strength, Slayer speed… it wasn’t a fair fight.
chloe
Chloe is a potential that had a hard time accepting her destiny. She thought that she couldn't be the next slayer because she was too young. She is very scared and does not seem to want to fight. It's also revealed that she loves Winnie the Pooh. When training with Kennedy and the others she can't quite get the moves right and has to do push-ups. Kennedy also calls her a maggot, which the first uses to taunt Kennedy. Unfortunately, Chloe can't handle the pressure of her calling and when the First starts talking, she listens. Buffy finds her hanging from a bedsheet.
Eve: Like any of this does. No matter how many there are, one of us is gonna be the next slayer, with the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Chloe: It won't be me. I mean, not now. I mean, I'm too young.
Kennedy: Doesn't work that way. In fact, the younger, the better. In fact, I'm starting to think it might be too late for me.
vi
Vi is a very scared girl from Texas with a strange sense of fashion. She doesn't seem to be cut out for the slayer work, but as she trains and fights she becomes a very courageous girl. She was trained by a watcher and only shown a blurry photograph of a vampire.
Buffy: Rona, what did your instincts tell you to do
just then?
Rona: Block his attack, keep him off balance, gain the advantage…
Buffy: No, they didn’t.
Rona: They told me to run.
Buffy: Vi?
Vi: They told me to run. They’re still sorta telling me to run.
chao-ahn
Chao-Ahn arrives in Sunnydale with Giles and comes from Shanghai, China. She does not speak a word of English and has a hard time communicating with the rest of the group, especially Giles' whose Cantonese is even worse than he thinks it is. She survives the final battle.
Giles: Yes, and the language barrier is formidable. I was concerned that my Mandarin is a little thin, but as it turns out, she speaks Cantonese, which is thinner. But we muddled through, and, as I suspected, ice cream is a universal language.
Chao-Ahn (subtitle): Like many from Asia, I am lactose intolerant. I'm very uncomfortable.
Buffy: What'd she say?
Giles: She's grateful to be in the land of plenty. Let's, um, go and put away your new clothes.
Later...
Chao-Ahn (subtitle): Why is everyone up? Are the flashcard monsters attacking?
Giles: She says she can't sleep. Um, I made myself some warm milk. You can have it.
Chao-Ahn (subtitle): You're trying to kill me!
amanda
Amanda first appears when she is sent to Buffy's office for slamming a bully's face into the pavement. She comes to Buffy again for advice about a boy that picks on her that she thinks is cute. After encountering a vampire at the school, Amanda tries to find Buffy again for help. Willow's spell for finding potentials hits her while she's at the door and freaks her out, so she leaves. Dawn mistakenly believes that she is the potential and sneaks out of the house. She runs into Amanda and decides to take care of the situation herself. Once Dawn realizes that Amanda is the potential, she gives her the courage to fight the vampire. She shows some advanced slayer reflexes even though she has had no training. She is somewhat of a geek and is a member of the Swing Choir. Amanda is killed in the final fight. She was the only known potential to come from Sunnydale.
Amanda: I feel like people think I’m weird and so they pick on me. But I might be. Weird.
Buffy: Amanda, why do you think you’re weird?
Amanda: One of the boys who picks on me… I kind of… see, if a guy picks on you, is it weird to think he’s cute?
Buffy: Oh…
Amanda: It’s just the last few times I’ve seen him, I’ve wanted to, you know, pick on him. Extra. More.
shannon
Shannon is on her way to find Buffy when she is attacked by the Bringers. She is rescued by Caleb, who then burns her, stabs her and throws her out of the moving truck. Willow and Faith almost run over her and then take her to the hospital. She delivers Caleb's message to Buffy. She eventually regains her strength and takes part in the final battle. Her fate is unknown.
Shannon: I just need to get to Revello Drive. Um, thanks, Father...
Caleb: Call me Caleb. Never was nobody's daddy.
Shannon: I'm Shannon.
Caleb: Well, Shannon, you feel like telling me why those Freaky Joe's were after you?
Shannon: I'm not sure.
Caleb: Well, do you ever think that maybe they were chasing you because you're a whore?
Shannon: What?
caridad
Caridad first shows up in a dream of Xander's. She helps a group of potentials capture one of the Bringers and continues to help in several fights. It is unknown whether she survived the final battle.
Caridad: I haven't been able to sleep the last few nights.
Xander: Hey, listen. It's gonna be OK. Buffy knows what she's doing. She's not gonna send you into battle until she's sure you're ready for action.
Caridad: That's just it, though. How will I know I'm ready...for action?
Xander: You have to trust us.
Caridad: I'm so scared, Xander. I'm so young.
Xander: Well, believe it or not, I was younger than you when I started all this.
Caridad: There's just so much I haven't done, so much I need to do. It's like... I never had a real boyfriend, you know?
colleen
Colleen only appears in Xander's dream sequence. Her fate is unknown.
Caridad: I've never been with a man. I could die tomorrow, and I've never been with a man.
Xander: Well, uh -
Colleen: I've never been with a man before either.
Xander: Colleen.
Colleen: I've never been with her in front of a man before.
Caridad: I've never been with her in front of a man, either.
dana
Dana is an insane young girl whose family was brutally murdered when she was ten. The man who murdered her family took Dana and tortured her for months. She winds up in a psychiatric hospital after being found naked wandering the streets. She has always had strange slayer dreams and Willow's spell makes her a slayer while she is in the hospital. A few months later, she manages to break out of the hospital. Angel and Spike try to investigate her case before figuring out that she was a slayer. Andrew arrives to try to help with Dana. Dana finds the place where she was kept and tortured and her memories become jumbled and she mistakenly remembers Spike as her tormentor. She also has the memories of past slayers and she recognizes Spike as the vampire that killed two slayers in the past. They fight and Dana wins, cutting off Spike's hands. Spike finally manages to convince her that he isn't the one that hurt her, but she tries to kill him anyway. Angel saves him and Dana is subdued. Andrew takes her away to an unknown location against Angel's will with the help of a large group of slayers. They don't want to leave Dana with Angel because nobody trusts him anymore.
Dana: Doesn't hurt if you hold still.
Spike: Right.
Dana: Heart...and head. Have to get home. Doesn't hurt if you hold still.
Spike: You're a real sack of hammers, aren't you? Hey...don't worry. I used to date a girl who wasn't all there.
Dana: Heart...and head. Stab the heart, cut off the head. Only way to be sure.
Spike: That's slayer talk, isn't it?
Dana: Keep cutting till you see dust.
