Introduction On The Opihi Pickers
Blending contemporary with traditional Hawaiian music,
these young artists have managed to take their vast
repertoire and put it to island instrumentation in a manner
that is technically sound, and musically pleasing with a
little something for everyone. For two years, the Opihi
Pickers have been delighting audiences with an incredible
variety of music. At an age when most kids are just trying
to figure out the challenges of life, The Opihi Pickers
have honed their musical skills with a dedication and focus
recognize by all who are touched by their performances.
Some of their 1997 performances include The Queen
Kapiolani Music Festival for the Multiple Sclerosis
Society, Hawaii Chapter, the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon at
Aloha Tower, Hawaii Foster Childern's Picnic Concert, The
Faumuina Family Benefit Concert, Kapiolani Hospital's Women
& Children Abuse Treatment Center Banquet, the Honolulu
zoological Society Concerts, the Joshua Manoa Benefit
Concert, The Windward Community College Ho'olaulea and two
Bishop Museum Sunday Concerts. They closed the year with
the completion of their first CD entitled "Fresh off the
Rocks" for Pomaika'i Records, distributed by Olinda Road,
manufactrured by Sony Music Entertainment, and recorded and
Mixed at Sea-West Studio's! It came out on May 7, 1998 in
Hawaii!!
