Amphetamines and Related Drugs

Also known as speed(or crank, crystal, meth), amphetamines where invented in Germany in the 1930's. The chemical structure is close in resemblance to adrenaline and noradrenaline, the body's own stimulants. While the effects are similar to cocaine, they last for up to six hours(orally). They are more toxic than cocaine, but less easy to abuse because of the longer duration of effects. There are a number of amphetamines with the same basic effect. Plain amphetamine (Benzedrine), dextroamphetamine, (Dexedrine), and methamphetamine (Methedrine). Addicts, or "Speed freaks" can become jumpy and paranoid. All amphetamines are illegal to have or use unless perscribed by a Doctor.
