Step 1
The first thing you are going to have to do is save the sound file. To do this either right click on the black box that pops up with the sound wav and choose "save as", or if you have quicktime go up to the file menu and choose "save as" You may want to make a new folder called "Sounds" and save all your sounds in there (It will make things easier later) *Make sure you are saving the sound as a ".wav" file!
Step 2
Once you've saved all the sounds you want, go into the Control Panel. Then go to the "Sounds" folder or icon. Click on that.
Step 3
Now that you are in the "Sound Properties" folder, a box will pop up with a list of places you can insert a sound (Asterik, close program, open program, menu popup...etc). Highlight the option you want to add sound to first. For example, say you want to have a sound for "Close Program". So you would click on that to highlight it.
Step 4
Now, go to the bottom of the box and click on the button that says "Browse". A box will pop up. Use the drop down menu to specify where you have saved your sounds. (So if you saved your sounds on your hard drive in a folder called "SOUNDS", you would select C:/ and then find the folder "SOUNDS" and select it.
Step 5
All the sounds you saved should now appear in the box. Simply highlight the one you want and click "Open" or double click on the sound you want.
Step 6
Now, your computer should take you back to the sounds properties list. You can click on "Preview" to hear what your computer will sound like with the new sound file.
Repeat this step for all the properties and options you want sound for. (My computer makes a sound pretty much every time I touch something, but others may not want anything that extreme!)
Step 7--IMPORTANT
Don't let all your efforts go to waste! Always remember to click the "Apply" button before you close out the window or none of your sounds will take effect! On some computers you may have to restart to hear the sounds, other computers will apply them right away!
Well, that's it! Happy playing! Keep in mind that these instructions work with Windows 95! I'm not sure about other programs, but they should be somewhat similar!
