JIMMY

Songs Dedicated to Jimmy Hickok:

Desperado--The Eagles

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You've been out ridin' fences, for so long now,
Oh, you're a hard one,
but I know that you've got your reasons,
these things that are pleasing you, hurt you somehow.

Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy, she'll beat you if she's able,
The Queen of hearts is always your best bet.
Well it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table,
But you always want the ones you can't get.

Desperado, oh you ain't getting younger,
Your pain and your hunger are driving you home,
And freedom, oh freedom, well that's just some people talking,
Your prison is walking through this world all alone.

Well don't your feet get cold in the wintertime, sky won't snow and the sun won't shine,
It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day.
Well you're losing all your highs and lows, ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, Open the gates
It may be raining, but there's a rainbow above you,
You better let somebody love you, (let somebody love you)
Let somebody love you, before its too late.

This is my favorite song, and was long before I saw the Young Riders! Is it any wonder I fell in love with Jimmy?

Standing Outside The Fire--Garth Brooks

We call them cold,
Those who can face this world alone,
Who seem to get by on their own,
Those who will never take the fall.

Lonely Stranger--Eric Clapton

When I walk stay behind
Don't get too close to me
'Cause it's sure to end in tears
So just let me be
Some will say that I'm no good
Maybe I agree
Take a look then walk away
That's all right with me
'Cause I'm a Lonely Stranger here
Well beyond my day
And I don't know what's goin' on
So I'll be on my way

Renegade--Tim McGraw

I might ride with the wind
I might follow the sun
I've gotta go where I've never been
Cause my heart beats to a different drum
It's just the way I was made

I'm a renegade

Blaze of Glory--Bon Jovi

You ask about my conscience, and I offer you my soul.
You ask if I'm gonna be a wise man, when I ask if I'll grow old.
You ask if I've known love and what it's like to sing songs in the rain.
Well I've seen love come, I've seen it shot down, I've seen it die in vain,
Staring down a colt let me make my final stand
Shot down in a blaze of glory.
Take me now, but know the truth
Cause I'm goin' out in a blaze of glory.
Lord I never choose first, but I choose first blood
And I'm going soon. Call me young gun.

Bad Company-- Bad Company

Company, always on the run
Destiny, is the rising sun
I was born, six-gun in my hand
Behind a gun, I make my final stand
That's why they call me

Chorus:
Bad Company, and I can't deny
Bad Company, 'til the day I die
'til the day I die, 'til the day I die

Rebel souls, deserters we are called
Chose a gun, and threw away the sun
Now these towns, they all know our names
Six-gun sound, is our claim to fame
I can hear 'em say

CHORUS

Wanted Dead or Alive-- Bon Jovi

And I walk these streets
a loaded six-string on my back
I play for keeps
'cause I might not make it back

Billy get Your Guns--Bon Jovi

I just seen trouble,
He's calling out your name tonight
Billy get your guns
You could walk away
But I know you were born to fight
Better get your guns...
That's the price on your head for the price of fame
And it'll never change...
I've seen a hangman dancing
Beneath the pale moon light
Better get your guns
And every stranger that you meet
thinks it's his lucky night
Billy get your guns.

Against the Grain - Garth Brooks

Folks call me a maverick
Guess I ain't too diplomatic
I just never been the kind to go along
Just avoidin' confrontation
For the sake of conformation
And I'll admit I tend to sing a different song
But sometimes you just can't be afraid
To wear a different hat
If Columbus had complied
This old world will still be flat
Nothin' ventured, nothin' gained
Sometimes you've got to go against the grain

Well, I have been accused
Of makin' my own rules
There must be rebel blood
Just a-runnin' through my veins
But I ain't no hypocrite
What you see is what you get
And that's the only way I know
To play the game
Old Noah took much ridicule
For building his great ark
But after forty days and forty nights
He was lookin' pretty smart
Sometimes it's best to brave the wind and rain
By havin' strength to go against the grain

…You got to listen to your heart
Go bustin' in like old John Wayne
Sometimes you got to go against the grain
Nothin' ventured, nothin' gained
Sometimes you've got to go against the grain

Sweet Baby James--James Taylor

There is a young cowboy he lives on the range
His horse and his cattle are his only companions
He works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyons
Waiting for Summer, his pastures to change
And as the moon rises he sits by his fire
Thinking about women and glasses of beer
And closing his eyes as the doggies retire
He sings out a song which is soft but it's clear
As if maybe someone could hear

Chorus
Goodnight you moonlight ladies
Rockabye sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams
And rockabye sweet baby James…
…With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go
There's a song that they sing when they take to the highway
A song that they sing when they take to the sea
A song that they sing of their home in the sky
Maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep
But singing works just fine for me

Burning Bridges--Garth Brooks

Yesterday she thanked me for oiling that front door,
This morning when she wakes she won't be thankful any more.
She'll never know how much I cared,
Just that I couldn't stay,
And I'll never know the reason why I always run away…
Last night we talked of old times, families and hometowns.
She wondered if we'd both agree on where we'd settle down.
I told her that we'd cross that bridge whenever it arrived,
Now through the flames I see her standing on the other side.

CHORUS:
Burning Bridges one by one,
And what I'm doing can't be undone,
And I'm always hoping someday
I'm gonna stop this running round
But every time the chance comes up,
Another bridge goes down

Like ashes on the water
I drift away in sorrow
Knowing that the day my lesson's finally learned
I'll be standing at the river, staring out across tomorrow,
And the bridge I need to get there, will be a bridge that I have burned.

CHORUS

Enter From the East - Jewel

The clock became a bullet hole
Cruel and unkind
It hurt me with its second hand
Alone another night

Nothing About me - Sting

You don't need to read no books on my history
I'm a simple man, it's no big mystery
In the cold weather, a hand needs a glove
At times like this, a lonely man like me needs love

You Don't Mess Around With Jim--Jim Croce

You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off of that old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim

At This Point In My Life--Tracy Chapman

As he might say to Lou:

At this point in my life, I've done so many things wrong
I don't know if I can do right. If you put your trust in me,
I hope I won't let you down. If you give me a chance, I'll try.
You see it's been a hard road, the road I'm travelling on,
And if I take your hand, I might lead you down the path to ruin.
I've had a hard life, I'm just saying it so you'll understand
that right now, right now, I'm doing the best I can at this point in my life.

At this point in my life, although I've mostly walked in shadows,
I'm still searching for the light, won't you put your faith in me?
We both know that's what matters, if you give me a chance, I'll try.
You see, I've been climbing stairs, but mostly stumbling down.
I've been reaching high, but always losing ground.
You see I've conquered hills, but I still have mountains to climb
And right now, right now, I'm doing the best I can at this point in my life.
Before we take a step, before we walk down that path,
Before I make any promises, before you have regrets,
Before we talk commitment, let me tell you of my past.
All I've seen and all I've done, the things I'd like to forget At this point in my life.

At this point in my life I'd like to live as if only love mattered.
As if redemption was in sight, as if the search to live honestly
Is all that anyone needs, no matter if you find it.
You see, when I've touched the sky, the earth's gravity has pulled me down,
but now I've reconciled that in this world, birds and angels get the wings to fly.
If you can believe in this heart of mine,
If you can give it a try, then I'll reach inside
And find and give you all the sweetness that I have
At this point in my life.

Against the Wind-- by Bob Seeger

And the years rolled slowly past, and I found myself alone.
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends.
I found myself further and further from my home,
And I guess I lost my way.
There were oh so many roads.
I was livin' to run and runnin' to live.
Never worried about payin' or even how much I owed.
Movin' eight miles a minute for months at a time,
Breakin' all of the rules that would bend.
I began to find myself searchin', searchin' for shelter again and again.
Against the wind, little somethin' against the wind.
I found myself seekin' shelter against the wind.
Well those drifter's days are past me now.
I've got so much more to think about.
Dead lines and commitments, what to leave in, what to leave out.
Against the wind, I'm still runnin' against the wind.
I'm older now but still runnin' against the wind.
Well I'm older now and still runnin' ........

FREE BIRD-- by Lynyrd Skynyrd

As he is leaving Alice in "The Peacemakers"

If I leave here tomorrow,
would you still remember me?
For I must be travelin' on now,
'cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But if I stayed here with you girl,
things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now.
And this bird you cannot change...
Lord knows I can't change.

Bye-bye baby it's been a sweet love.
Though this feelin' I can't change.
Please don't take it so badly.
'Cause the lord knows I'm to blame.
But if I stayed here with you girl,
things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now.
And this bird you cannot change.
Lord knows I can't change.

Lord, I can't change,
won't you fly..... high..... free...... bird, yeah.

Turn the Page--by Bob Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band

Well you walk into a restaurant, strung out from the road,
And you feel the eyes upon you, as you're shakin' off the cold,
You pretend it doesn't bother you, but you just want to explode.
Most times you can hear 'em talk, other times you can't,
All the same old cliches...
And you always seem out-numbered, you don't dare make a stand.

Walking in My Shoes--Depeche Mode

Now I'm not looking for absolution
Forgiveness for the things I do
but before you come to any conclusions
Try walking in my shoes

Fear and Love--Morcheeba

We always have a choice
or at least I think we do
We can always use our voice
I thought this to be true
We can live in fear
or extend ourselves to love
We could fall in love
and lift ourselves above
Fear can stop your love
and love can stop your fear
Fear can stop your love
but it's not always that clear

Kid & Jimmy:

A Friend to Me--Garth Brooks

Well you and I, We're buddies
And we've been since we've first met
Me and you, Well we've sure been through
Our share of laughter and regret

Lord knows we've had our bad days
And more than once we've disagreed
But you've always been a friend to me

You can be so stubborn
There's times I think that you just like to fight
And I hope and pray
I live to see a day
When you say I might be right
And there's times I'd rather kill you
Than listen to your honesty
But you've always been a friend to me

You've always been, Time and again
The one to take my hand
And show me it's okay to be
Just the way I am
With no apology

Oh you've always been
And you will 'til God knows when
Yes you've always been a friend to me
