Dear Diary

Dear Diary

Nothing really important happened in the last three days.

Jimmy is still a bit restrained, though both Kid and I tried to talk to him.

Kid told me last night he’s worried about him. He said Jimmy’s looking so miserable that he’s afraid he might hurt himself and that he won’t be around to watch over him since he was going on a run. I took his hand in mine, gave him the nicest smile I could master, and told him I will watch over Jimmy for him and that everything will be ok. I wasn’t too convinced about it myself though, and I think he knew it. Either way he didn’t say a thing and just returned my smile.

Ike and Buck are on runs too, so the only ones here are Cody and Jimmy, and myself.

Cody is as self-centered as always and Jimmy is still keeping to himself. I feel so alone.

Kid, come back soon, please…

I hope Jimmy won’t do anything to himself, if only so I won’t disappoint Kid, and, of course, as I said for many times before, we all need each other. We can’t lose Jimmy.

I feel like I need to talk to someone; Kid would be my first choice. Unfortunately, I’m going on a run when he comes back.

I never missed him that much. Well, maybe I did when he was the only one to know about me being a girl, but ever since the others found out, I really haven’t missed him at all.

Anyway, he’s suppose to come tomorrow morning and that will be my cue, so I guess I’d better go to sleep.

Good night,

Lou.

Dear Diary

I came back so late last night, you would’ve thought Teaspoon will let me sleep till later. But no –

There’s work to be done – a well digging!!!

Kid went on another run this morning. Lazy Cody asked him to switch with him and the Kid, being the sucker that he is, agreed to take this run for him.

I don’t understand him! Doesn’t he want to be at the station at the same time as I just for a while???

Cody, Ike, Jimmy and I went with Teaspoon to find the right place for the well. Teaspoon said none of his ancestors were wrong to find water before, and that we’ll find water about 20 foot under the ground.

So, we started digging, while he was lying on the ground, ready for a little nap.

When Cody found a rock when there was supposed to be water, Teaspoon finally got into the hole and started digging himself.

And sure enough – he found water.

After we got all wet we came back to the station, shivering from the cold, just to find a beautiful lady named Elizabeth. Later we found out that she’s Teaspoon’s daughter.

But then, when we just saw her, the men’s mouths hang open and it seemed as if they would never close it. Men!

I don’t want to think of what they must be thinking right now, especially Cody. I’ll probably blush and the redness will never fade away from my face.

‘Night

Lou.

Dear Diary

I feel so happy!!!

We just got back from a dance. It was magical. Well, it was at the end…

At first, seeing all the ladies with their beautiful dresses and their hair all done, all dancing and smiling and talking without thinking on every word they say ten times before they say it, my heart ache. I wanted so much to be like them. I wanted the boys to adore me with their looks as they did them. But, of course, I couldn’t be like them. Not now.

Teaspoon danced with Elizabeth, whom I really don’t like since she wants to take Teaspoon with her back to St. Louis for some money.

Cody, Jimmy, Buck and Ike stood by the food grinning and admiring the young girls. Ike kept shooting Cody angry glances (they had a fight earlier over Elizabeth – why do men always fight over women?), but beside that they seemed quite content with their view and food. I couldn’t see Kid anywhere.

It seemed none of them was aware of my distress. I felt like crying when suddenly I felt someone pushing me slightly. I looked behind just to meet Kid’s deep blue eyes as he asked me to come outside for “some fresh air”. I was startled at first when he shoved me. I was too deep in my jealousy I didn’t see him coming. I followed him outside.

We walked in silence until we were far enough from the dance so we won’t be seen, but close enough so we could hear the music. I didn’t know what he was planning so I felt a bit nerves.

We stood in an alley, facing each other. Well, almost, since I couldn’t meet his eyes. As I took my glasses off he took my hat off my head and threw it to the ground behind me. We both were quite embarrassed. Then he asked me if he may have the dance. When I said he may he took my hand and I must’ve blushed terribly when I felt embarrassed to put my other hand on his shoulder. I couldn’t touch him…

We danced for a while until the music died and he leaned down and kissed me gently. When I felt his hands pulling me closer toward him I backed away. He smiled when I told him I’d better go back and just pulled me again and kissed me, more passionately this time, and this time I didn’t backed away but instead I found my fingers taking a course of their own through his hair.

When we broke the kiss, after a few minutes, we were holding each other in a tight embrace. I think it was the most passionate kiss we have ever shared till now. I was short of breath. I still am now, when I’m reliving it. I can still taste him and smell him.

After the kiss we didn’t feel like going back. I was sure everybody would find out the truth about me. I felt as if I have a huge writing stamped on my forehead saying: “I’ve just kissed the Kid”.

So we went for a walk. The streets were empty because everybody was at the dance, and since there was no one to see us we allowed ourselves to hold hands. We just walked, barely saying a word, both want to capture the moment and hold if forever. But everything must come to an end and so was our little walk – people were starting to fill the streets. We hurried back in time to find the boys grinning at us. It’s a good thing Teaspoon, Emma and Elizabeth were still inside.

We waited for them to come out and then we headed back to the station, Teaspoon and Elizabeth entertaining us on the way back with stories and songs.

The boys and me headed straight to the bunkhouse where Cody started asking where the Kid and I were. Buck, sweet Buck, shut him by changing the subject to Ike’s success with Elizabeth. Cody was defeated.

I waited till they all fell asleep so I could write this down and now I’ m pretty tired myself, and I have a run tomorrow, so I’d better stop now.

Good night,

Lou.

Dear Diary

Oh, God, I’m tired!!!

I just got back from my ride a couple of hours ago. Of course I had nothing left to eat and I was late for dinner only by five minutes. Why were they so hungry? It’s not as if they’ve been riding…

Emma managed to find something for me to eat, though.

While I was eating the boys told me all about what happened while I was gone (I wonder when I’ll come home and they won’t have anything interesting to tell me…)

Elizabeth came out to be a woman named Amanda O’Connell who, with a man called Lucas Malone, tried to rip off Teaspoon’s 10,000 dollars that woman, Elizabeth mother, saved for him.

Confusing?

Amanda was Elizabeth’s friend and she took care of her while she was sick, before she died. Lucas Malone, who was Amanda’s partner, found the letter Elizabeth’s mother wrote to Teaspoon and that’s how he learned about the money. He decided to con Teaspoon, steal his money and then kill him.

Emma found Amanda going through Teaspoon’s possessions. She was looking for a silver comb Elizabeth’s mother gave Teaspoon when they parted all those years ago. Teaspoon was supposed to give the silver comb to the bank manger at St. Louis to prove he really is who he says he is – Amanda wanted to steal it and give it to Malone so he won’t have to kill Teaspoon. Amanda told Teaspoon the truth about her and Malone and Teaspoon decided to take his chances with him.

Teaspoon and Amanda went to the saloon where he played poker with Malone, the silver comb as his stake. Malone was too confident in his winning, thinking Amanda will help him as she always did. Little did he know, but Amanda was on Teaspoon’s side now.

Teaspoon won and Malone was supposed to leave town, but as Teaspoon predicted he went straight to Emma’ Teaspoon and Amanda headed back and when Malone stopped them and asked for the comb, Amanda shot one of his men, the boys shot the other one. Malone tried to escape but Teaspoon rode after him and when Malone pulled his second gun, Teaspoon shot him dead.

When I looked around the table I finally realized neither Teaspoon nor Amanda were there. Dreaded of the answer I asked where they were. I was afraid Teaspoon went to St. Louis with her and that he won’t ever come back.

Emma smiled to calm me down and told me they went to town to have dinner and spend some time together where they can talk without interference, before Amanda leaves tomorrow.

Anyway, Emma said we should get to bed early because Teaspoon has already figured out a way for us to be busy tomorrow so I guess it’s going to be a short evening for us.

Cody just came into the bunkhouse with Jimmy. They are so noisy.

SHUT UP!!!

Good night,

Lou.
