1998
"Hey Zac," Rodrigo called out. Zac's eyes flickered up from the board he was hammering a nail into. A grin spread across his face, and he waved his hammer at them.
Panda and Raine peddled on their bikes just a few feet behind him. Zac trotted across the front lawn to the edge of the sidewalk beside them. His smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
"Long time no see," Raine said leaning out and hugging him. Rodrigo slapped him on the back.
"Good to see ya, nosebleed," he joked.
Zac groaned "Don't remind me."
Panda had to smile. She was worried though. He looked thin and there were dark circles under his eyes. He looked right at her, as though he knew she was thinking of him.
"Hey Pand," he said. His eyes glittered with rememberance.'He's not seeing me,'she knew. A spark of the old envy and hurt twinged in her stomach.
"Hey," she replied. It would never be the same between them. Never.
At 13-years-old, she missed the way things were.
She missed Zac, the old Zac.
But she also missed Jenny and no matter how it looked as though there could be two Jennies, there had only been one.
