The Rain

Prelude

The rain poured down onto them. Her drenched hair hung from beneath the rubbery yellow rain hat,& clung to the matching rain jacket in stringy auburn chunks. Her hazel eyes peered out at him; he could barely see her through the torrents of rain that fell around them.

"What do you want me to do about it?" he yelled. Her eyes glittered in the glow of the streetlight.

"Bring him back!" she yelled back in agony. Then she turned and ran up the street, her cheap canvas shoes splashing in the water.

He stood-mouth hanging slightly agape-as he watched her figure recede into the darkness. Slowly, he turned and walked back home.

He put his head down. Water was getting in his eyes.
