Punk/Thrash

Green Day

WOW! I have a lot to say about Green Day. They're my absolute favorite band of all time, more so than Tool even. I even have a book about them. Green Day's almost perfect pop melodies in conjunction with catchy guitar riffs and the fuck off attitudes have made them immensly popular. Green Day was one of the first urban punk bands to go seriously public which of course threw a match on the gasoline soaked issue of selling out because the whole punk attitude says, "FUCK the system and FUCK corporate America." My stand on it is that Green Day was simply smart when offered an opportunity to make BIG bucks while still garunteeing cheap seats for all punks at their shows. Green Day members (Billy Joe, Mike, and Tre) and all genuine punks, growing up in the suburbs of LA. All their songs are written from life experiences they have had. Bored, lazy, lustful, pissed off, high... they're all about my life and they have my alliegance as my most favored band with their first two albums, Dookie and 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. If you haven't heard their first album, go get it. Get the rest of them too, while you're at it.

The Misfits

OLD... old school punk/thrash. A little more morbid and a little more angry, The Misfits are one of the more popular older thrash bands. I like them because

Riot Squad

When I was re-introduced to the old school punk genre, Riot Squad was the first band that came up. I decided to take a gander when their tour brought them through Waco (this fucked up town I live in.) A less well known group, definitely not mainstream or sell outs, Riot Squad got my attention by yelling, "FUCK YOU!" as soon as they stepped out from behind the curtain. The thrash pit, the energy they gave off, and the rage in the air kept building throughout the whole show, never letting up. When I came out of there, I was ready to get in a fight or throw my boots at a cop. Even though it was my last $10 and I was a poor college student, I just had to spend it and get the CD. If you like lots of energy, the older punk mix, being pissed off, and drawing stares when you scream along, go get it! Just a warning, it's kind of hard to find because they will never sign for a corporation.
