Tool

I've been listening to them nonstop for the past few weeks. Tool has some incredible rhythms. I love the way they combine the patterns in "Eulogy" and "Aenima." To his credit, Maynard (shown here) wears boxers on stage and lives in LA. His vocals range from the sincere melodic pleading heard on "Pushit" to the tearing rage of "Hooker With a Penis." and the most sexy beautiful vocal display (besides "Pushit" which is all beautiful) is just three lines in the middle of "Hooker With a Penis" during the halftime breakdown when Maynard taunts, "All you know about me's what I sold you, Dumb fuck, I sold out long before you ever heard my name." Incredible. Adam's not too shabby with that guitar either. Needless to say (because the rhythmic combinations are just genius), the drummer (Danny) is also incredibly talented. Although Tool's lyrics tend to be very individualized (only Maynard and occasionally the band truely identify with what they're saying), the emotions they convey simply in the melodies are enough to make anyone walk arrogantly down the street with fists, curling lip, and latent despair. A great listen if you're already in a bad mood.

KoRn

What can I say? John Davis has got to be one of the most enraged bastards in the music industry. I think that's why I like to scream along to their songs so much. All I have to say about the Family Values tour is I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED IT. I will never again miss a KoRn concert if they are within 5 hours. Also, if you haven't seen the "Freak On a Leash" video, you're missing one of the best music videos ever. The animation is incredibly symbolically representative, and the bullet is just bad ass... that's all I have to say about that. I think the meanest thing I've ever done involved KoRn. There's a fuckin gay fairy who thinks he's all that in my math class, and my friend Nate (absolute KoRn freak) rapped the entire length of "All In The Family" then wrote every single lyric out and gave it to him as a Valentine's card. You go John.

Nine Inch Nails

Trent Reznor... a very scary guy. His talent lies in the lyric way he lets you know just how scary he is. He is a genius at conveying his emotions on you... like his biggest hit, "Closer." After listening to that song, you just wanna, well, fuck like an animal. I could listen to "Closer" all day, as my best friend Chris can testify. The remixes of it on his album "Closer To God" are WOW good. I even like them better than the original song sometimes. His new album is supposed to have been released by now, but just as they're about to finish it up, Trent comes up with new ideas and goes back to change it. His press agent/manager says about it, "That's Trent for you." A very inventive guy but never satisfied.
