Dear :
I am very disappointed to learn that [name of sponsor] is promoting greyhound racing. I urge you to
stop supporting this cruel industry.
Each year, thousands of young greyhounds who are unable to run fast enough
to win are killed. Additionally, every week at tracks around the country,
truckloads of failed or injured greyhounds are killed or worse, sent to
research laboratories. In total, the greyhound racing industry kills
approximately 20,000-25,000 greyhounds annually in the United States
alone.
Greyhounds routinely suffer inhumane treatment starting from the breeding
farm, to the training farm, in transport, and at race tracks. Greyhounds
who make it to racetracks are typically forced to live in crates for 18-20
hours per day. Some dogs are left muzzled almost constantly. Greyhound
rescue groups nationwide routinely receive racing dogs riddled with
external and internal parasites, open weeping sores, and broken bones
because it is more profitable to bring in fresh dogs or neglect existing
dogs than to provide proper care.
Contrary to industry propaganda, the majority of racing greyhounds are not
adopted out as pets. With the already huge problem of pet overpopulation,
with millions of cats and dogs being killed at shelters, it is just not
possible to find homes for the thousands of dogs that the greyhound racing
industry discards every year.
The killing and the abuse will never stop unless the greyhound industry is
banned or goes bankrupt. Please educate yourself by going to the
following web sites: http://www.greyhounds.org and http://www.grey2kusa.org. Please stop
supporting this atrocity.
Sincerely,
Back
