Eric Clapton appeared on the television show "Late Night with David Letterman" as the main guest. This show was the continuation of "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson", which David later took over as the replacement for Johnny Carson when he retired from show-biz. Known as "The Tonight Show with David Letterman" the name evolved to "Late Night with David Letterman" and just "The Late Show".
