The sun was raising that day
As she cast her light toward the west
Many traveled to their laboring
People were preparing for daily duties
settling down to continue the work before them
Unknowing what that day had in store
People loaded on a plane
smiling and visiting with each other
excited to return to a loved one waiting
Trouble began unknown to those on land
Many were brave as they knew what was in store
Four of her own planes, highjacked and on a mission
Those that were there could not do anything
A child so excited for it was his first flight
Only to know it was going to be his last
First plane hit the North Tower and blew in flames
Second Tower another plane eighteen minutes later did the same
Third hit the Pentagon and took out 189 lives
Fourth one crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania
Instantly lives had perished and many injured
People on the windows edge screaming out for help
Not long the towers collapsed and many lost their lives
Oh the day America cried.

Cried Real Tears
Today a nation cried
for the loved ones who died
The heart of the land seen fear
Our Lord He is near
Reach out and take His hand
For a nation cried tears
Through the broken glass
a wounded building fell
A plane crashed in a field
taking our loved ones home
Oh today a nation felt the pain
from the violence that came.
Our Lord He is near
Reach out and take His hand
Today a nation cried real tears.
Today a nation cried
for the loved ones who died
The heart of the land seen fear
Our Lord He is near
Reach out and take His hand
For a nation cried tears
