Within the walls of this building echo the sweet sounds of some of the greatest composers. Tonight the orchestra will be performing exerts from one of the century's most talented Russian composers.

This is a photograph of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during their Shostakovich concert. The score called for 3 flutes and 2 piccolos, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, and Tuba, Timpani, triangle, snare drum, cymbals, bass drum, tam-tam, bells, strings and solo piano.The ensemble of the orchestra has slighty differed since Shostakovich's time.
