Fixing The Problem

(Tabitha Dreaming)

I woke up in a cold sweat. I looked over at the bed next to me, Corel was sound asleep.

Getting out of bed, I walked quickly to Jake's room. Laying in his bed sound asleep was Jake. My eyes filled with tears as I walked towards the bed to make sure.

"Jakie...?" I whispered, having my hand moved out infront of me.

Jake opened his eyes. "Tabitha?" he said shocked. "What are you doing here?"

I touched Jake's face as I sat on the bed. "You're okay?"

He smiled sweetly. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be? Tab, you okay?"

Tears ran quickly down my eyes as I hugged him. "Lord, I thought you were dead. I had a dream."

Jake rubbed his hand on my back. "Relax, Tab. I'm fine. When we came home from our double dates, you went to bed. You weren't feeling well. I called Cassie." he paused. "She's not very happy about me dating Gwen."

I pulled away from Jake. "Yeah, I know. Listen, I'll talk to Cassie in the morning...I know she doesn't want you dating her just as much as I don't." I paused wiping away the tears. "She's a controller and that's dangerous for both you, her, all of us."

He nodded and kissed my forehead. "Good night."

I smiled at him and nodded. "Okay." --------------------------------------------------------------------

CASSIE

I woke up quickly. "Jake!" I called out to no one. I was sitting alone in the waiting room at the hospital.

It was seven-thirty. I got a call from Tabitha, telling me about her dream and we just talked. She's going through hell right now. Along with Rachel, who's taking it badly.

Jake is okay. Just a scary thought for all of us. It was a close call, Jake sort of speak, saved us.

Tabitha walked in the waiting room. "Hey Cassie."

I smiled at her. "Hey. How's Jake?"

"Good. He'll be out later on today. I'm still just gonna sit around here..." she trailed off and glanced at me. "Have I been a little vain or something like that lately?"

I nodded slightly. "Yeah. Just a little." I paused. "But who isn't, ya know. Listen, the main thing is we are all alright. And Jake is alright."

She gave me a quick hug. "You and Jake need to get together after he dumps Gwen." she whispered in my ear.

"Huh?" I said to her, pretending not to notice a thing.

"Cassie, come on! I know you like Jake, and besides...he likes you. I rather see him happy than going out with Gwen for the whole controller thing." Tabitha said, which I understood.

"Rachel and everybody else should be here in a little bit. Five, ten minutes. I take it they're pretty shook up. When I told Tom it was like..." she paused. "It didn't surprise him."

"It's the Yeerk." I said slowly.

About five minutes later Rachel and Marco came in the waiting room.

TABITHA

Have you ever noticed how some people don't change until something big has happened in their life...or even a close call? Well this was it for me, I never felt so much pain and happiness and clarity in one day.

Jake's accident, knowing he was better, and then all of the other little things. Like how Tobias and Rachel really did belong together...or how Cassie and Jake are in love, they just keep it between each other.

You think about a lot of stuff late at night, after you have nightmares after nightmares.

We all sat around the waiting room, talking and talking. About everything possible there was to talk about.

Love, friendship, death, Jake, Visser 3, Yeerks, everything! We all really connected with each other. It was actually what we needed, even though it injured Jake. The real problem came later on, when Gwen came by.

"Hey Gwen!" I smiled when she came in.

"Tab, hi. How's Jake?" she asked semi-sympathetically.

"Better, he'll be out in a couple hours...can I talk to you?" I asked her, standing up and walking away from the group.

She nodded. "Sure."

I walked over to her and stood close by her. "Sorry I gotta be the one to tell you this, but...Jake's dumping you..."

"What?" she asked angrily.

"Says he feels like he's just friends with you. You gotta understand it, Gwennie. Besides, you still got your friendship." I broke the news to her.

"Got a point." she nodded. "Listen, I gotta get going. I'll see you later, Tab." she said walking off.

I turned back towards the gang. All sitting there talking, I grinned at them.

"How did everything go?" Rachel asked.

"Eh, we'll just have to wait and see. Gwen's a little, iffy at the moment." I told them.

"Besides," Marco spoke up. "we gotta watch Jake, it's going to be important we rest and watch out for each other."

"I agree." Cassie said. "Let's just take a break."

We all nodded. "Yeah, let's just take a break."
