Chapter 10

The next day I was up at 9 am.. Brian picked me up as he said he would.

We were all in the pool swimming. Howie's and Kevin's girlfriends were really nice, there names were Sam and Terisa.

"Hey Brian get on my shoulders we'll play chicken."

"Good idea but how about AJ on yours, Brianna on mine, and Terisa and Kev."

Howie and Sam were helping Erik and his girlfriend Stafani make the hamburgers and hot dogs.

"Sorry Bri just you Nick, AJ, and Brianna." They got out of the pool.

"But Brian we're always together."

"Just this once then we'll be partners."

"But we-"

"Nick its not a big deal. Brianna come here."

"What?"

"On my shoulders."

" Excuse me?" Before he said anything I was on his shoulders face to face with A.J.

"Hiya babes."

"Hey A.J., ready to go down?"

"Only after you. Ladies first." "Ok Bones..." We started going at it and I pushed him over. The next thing

I know I'm falling backwards onto the cement, and then black.

"Brianna, please wake up!" I moaned a little to Brian's words.

" I think we should call an ambulance."

"Hang on D, I think she's waking up." As if on cue, my eyes fluttered open.

"Brianna, sweetie are you OK?" I heard Brian ask.

"How many fingers am I holding up?" That was A.J.

"How bad does your head hurt?" Sam.

"Does anything else hurt?" Howie.

"Brian!"

"I'm here what's wrong?"

" I-I can't see."

"Guys give her some space," I heard Kevin say.

"Can you sit up?" Brian asked with great concern.

"Maybe." He took my hand and put his other hand around my back.

"Whoa." I put my hand up to my head.

"What? What's wrong?" Brian was very worried.

"It's weird how you can't see but still get dizzy." I laughed, everyone else stayed quiet. "Ok people I was trying to break the ice, you could at least laugh."

"Uh Brianna, how can you stay so calm?" A.J. blurted out.

"This isn't the first time." I told him, my voice shaking.

"We should get you looked at," Brian and Howie helped me up and over to the car.

"Duck your head," Brian told me and put his hand on top of my head. Brian sat in the back with me. Howie drove and his girlfriend sat upfront with him. The whole drive was silent.

I jumped a little when I heard sirens, as soon as I walked inside the hospital I stepped back.

"Um Brian?"

"Yes?"

" I'm fine, my head doesn't hurt, I'm not dizzy, my sight will come back in a day or two. I'm really fine."

"Well, we just want to make sure." His voice was so calming and soothing.

He took my hand again and started walking but I wouldn't budge.

" Brianna come on." Howie put his hand on the small of my back and pushed a little.

"What's wrong?"

"Bri, I-uh, you see, when-" Tears filled my eyes but I kept them back.

"What is it?" Brian asked.

"It's nothing, sorry." We started walking again.

Three hours later after a few test and questions I was getting dressed.

When I finished dressing, I sat up on the table and swung my legs back and forth 'till the doctor came in.

"Well, Brianna, everything looks OK. But because of your injury to the head a few years ago, that's why you can't see anything. It could last for a few hours or weeks. This will not be permanent thought."

"Figured as much, so I can go home?"

"Yes, but if you feel dizzy or what not come back."

"OK thank you. Could you please send in Brian Littrell?"

" I believe he's right outside." He left and Brian came in.

"Brian?"

"Yes, its me." He walked over to me and took my hands.

"Take me home please. I don't want to be here any longer." He noticed the fear and pain in my eyes.

' She's hiding something behind those beautiful blue-green eyes. I wish I could get her to trust me enough to tell me what's bothering her,' Brian thought to himself.

"Sure thing." He picked me up a little and set me on the ground. He put his arm around my waist and led me out of the room.

"Brianna everything all right?"

" I'll explain everything in the car, OK D.?"

I picked up my pace with Brian's arm still around me. We got to the car and we drove ten minutes before I said anything.

"Doctors said I was fine, obviously or I wouldn't be going home. I've been blind before this. I was sixteen um..." I swallowed hard and Brian took my hand.

"It was just from a gymnastics accident. On the-the-uh beam. I was doing my dismount. My head hit the end of the beam really hard. That started a clot and if I were to hit my head on the same spot I can't see cause the clot isn't all gone. In another year it should be. I was blind for two years, finished my last two years of high school at a blind school, that's that."

"That must've been hard for you."

"It was but it makes you not take things for granted." I yawned and leaned against Brian. The next thing I know, I'm asleep.
