Chapter 6

The next morning, Kevin was woken up by his cellphone. He slowly slid out of his bed and onto the floor, crawled to his bag and started digging for the phone. After the 4th ring, he found it buried under some J-14 magazines. He was definatly not a morning person.

"'Lo?"

A few moments later he recognized the voice of Lou, their manager.

"Hey ya Kev, you gotta wake up! You have to be out of that hotel by 9:00 sharp, and you have a concert in 4 hours! The bus will be waiting outside for you in the back of the hotel in 20 minutes."

"20 minutes? Hey, Lou, what time is it now?"

"Uh... hold on... My watch says it's 8:30. Why, did you just wake up?"

"Um... sorta. Bye...!"

He hung up the phone before Lou could start blowin up at him. He stood up and scratched his side while stretching, and called Brian's hotel room, only a few doors down the hall, telling him to call the other guys and to get outta bed.

He grabbed a towel and took a quick shower before packing.

Soon after, all the guys were running out the back emergancy doors of the hotel, avoiding the fans that awaited in front. They jumped into the bus, and a few moments later speeding away to downtown Tokyo. The boys all shoved their bags into the back of the bus and tried getting comfortable.

Nick sat in the back playing Zelda, Brian laying in a bunk playing with his basketball, Kevin reading a magazine he recently bought, AJ writing poetry while listening to his Boyz ll Men cd, and Howie watching re-runs of the TV show Friends.

Soon Kevin, Brian, AJ and Howie were sleeping. But a few hours later, Nick woke them all up, telling them it was time to get ready for the concert. They all ran into the studio, praying this concert would go good. This was the last night of the tour, but they hadn't gone to many of the concerts. This was mostly AJ and Nick's doing. But at least the tour was almost over. All the boys felt nervouse, even though they didn't know why. They weren't scared, but had a feeling of dread at the pit of their stomachs. Like something would go wrong later. They all tried to ignore it and got dressed.

They all ran onto the stage while the light was off, getting into their positions. hey were doing a song from their newest album. It was called "Not Good Enough." It was a hard rock song that had Howie and AJ rapping on, and Nick and Brian with most of the solos.

Soon the stage lit up with a blinding white light, but went back to darkness. The boys did the first few words-

Just not good enough

The stage started to flash white and black, while the ground was a mixture of many colors circling the floor.

Juuuuust not good enough.

There was a loud beat and they all did their choreography- flips, headswings... hard stuff. About half way through the song, during the rapping, AJ said a word not understandable. Brian heard him and started laughing. But when his part came on, his mind went totally blank. AJ glared at him, then did another rapping part. After the show, they all were lifted off the ground and swung backstage. Nick now knew why he had the feeling. No, not Brian messing up- but the thought he had just had.

He suddenly had a very large urge to break up. To get some sleep. To watch TV instead of rehearse. To play basketball instead of putting on make-up. To be at home playing with Aaron instead of sitting there, being bored out of his mind while waiting to go on the stage.

Slowy, cautiously, he walked up to all the guy.

"Uh, guys?"

"Yeah?"

"I got something to tell you. You might not agree, but, hey, it's a start. Okay, I'm just gonna do this really quick instead of a long speech, so don't get mad."

"Okay....?"

"Um..."

Nick stared at his feet, then suddnely blurted it out.

"I wanna quit the Backstreet Boys."
