"No," I told him, turning my back to him.
"Your tutor is going to be here in an hour so you have to get up," he told me. It was ten.
I sat up and looked at him. He was sitting at the end of my bed.
"Can't she just come up here and I can just stay in bed? I need my rest with all the shopping and stuff that I'm doing today."
"I think you can do without one hour of sleep," Dad told me, pulling the covers down. "You can always sleep tomorrow."
"Tomorrow's the last day of the year! I can't spend it sleeping!"
Dad laughed at me.
"Just get out of bed and take a shower. The longer you take to get ready, the longer it will take with the tutor, the later it will be before you go shopping."
My eyes widened and I jumped out of bed and ran to my dresser, looking for something to wear. See, I got a lot of money from my new family for Christmas because they didn't know what to get me. Leslie and I were going to go shopping and spend it.
"What time is Mrs. Carter picking you up?" Dad asked.
"Noon. Me and Les are going to eat at the mall. You're picking us up at 6:30.."
"Do you really need that much time shopping?"
"You've never gone shopping with me and Les," I told him. "It's like two A.J.s shopping together. After shopping, we're coming back here and watching horror movies all night long."
"Horrow movies? Can you watch comedy or something?"
"No. Comedy's next month at Leslie's. Then it's drama here, horror there, comedy here. That's April."
Dad shrugged and left the room. I found some clothes and went into my bathroom. I cranked up Dru Hill and got in the shower.
