Chapter 1

"Did you ever wish that you weren't insanely popular, so you could leave right after the show?" Joey asked as he, along with the other members of *NSYNC plus their bus driver, James, trudged along the side of a deserted highway.

"Yes," answered Lance.

"Did you ever wish," Justin started, glaring at Chris, "that you're one friend with a cell phone, would remember to charge it?"

"Shut up!" Chris told him. "I forgot. What do you want to do about it now? Anyway, it's not my fault we don't have a spare tire."

All five of them shot a look at the bus driver, who said nothing.

They had been on their way to the next concert. The other buses, with the equipment, opening act, the band, and everyone else, had left right after the show, but *NSYNC had to stay to do autographs. Once they had gotten out, they have been going for about ninety minutes when the bus got a flat. There was no spare and the one cell phone they had (Chris's) wasn't working. Now they were looking for some place with a phone to call the hotel where everyone else would be staying.

"Hey, guys, there's a house up there," JC said, pointing up a hill. Everyone followed his gaze up the hill. There sat a huge, old Victorian house. A veranda wrapped around the three sides they could see. There was one single light coming from the top story, which cut through the black night sky like a knife. They all stood there, staring at the house in wonder.

"I don't like it," Chris announced.

"It doesn't matter if you don't like it," Justin spat at him.

"And why not?"

"You're the one who didn't charge the freaking phone!" Justin shrieked.

"Give it up!" JC told him. "I don't think we really have a choice. I'm tired…"

"What a shock," Lance muttered.

"Shut up! As I was saying, we're all tired, so I say we got to the house. All in favor, say 'I'."

"I!" yelled everyone but Chris.

"Majority rules," Justin smirked.

"Let's just go," the driver growled and they started up the hill.
