Chapter 2

"Should we knock first?" asked Lance, as they stood in front of the huge double wooden doors.

"No! We’re just going to barge into someone's house and tell them we're staying over night!" Joey remarked sarcastically.

JC ignored the bickering and raised his hand to knock on the door, when it swung open with a swish. Everyone fell silent.

"Hello?" JC asked.

"Hello!" came the almost too cheerful voice of a woman.

"Does she happen to remind you of someone?" Chris asked, ready to break into his make-fun-of-Britney sing and dance routine. Justin glared.

That was when the woman along with a man, came into view. She was wearing a long, flowing, red gown that brushed the floor. Her hair was pulled back and piled on top of her head.

He wore a pair of overalls and a long sleeved shirt. Both had grass and dirt stains all over them. He wore no shoes or socks and his silver colored hair hung stringily. Next to the woman, he looked very plain.

"You're here!" the woman said, in her high, cheerful voice.

"We've been expecting you," the man added, in a low rumbling voice.

"You have?" asked Chris. This could not be good.

"How did you know we were coming?" Justin asked, his worry growing.

"We saw you from our bedroom," the woman told him. "I'm Mary and this is Rodney."

"Is that on the top floor?" asked JC.

"No. It's right down the hall," Mary told him and the five friends exchanged worried looks.

"Do you have room for six of us?" Lance asked.

"Six?" Rodney asked, confused. "I only see five."

They looked around and saw that the driver was gone. "Our bus driver was with us," Joey explained. "I don't know what happened to him. But, do you have room for five of us?"

"Of course. There are five bedrooms on the second floor. I shall show you the way," Rodney said. The guys started to follow him when Mary spoke.

"How long will you be staying?"

"Just until morning," JC told her. Then we can call someone to come and get us. You do have a phone, don't you?"

"Of course. Now, follow Rodney." Mary turned and started down the long hallway.

"Come on," Rodney said gruffly. The guys followed him up the large and winding staircase.
