Chapter 3

The day before we left for LA, Brian and I were playing Nintendo and Kevin was doing something in the kitchen. AJ was out with Marissa, his girlfriend, but they were going to be there soon and I was finally going to meet her. Then, they came.

"Marissa, this is Drew," AJ told her. "Drew, Marissa."

"So you're the little girl that AJ's told me about. You sure have a funny name."

I frowned. I wasn't little and I like my name. I didn't like this girl.

"So why are you staying here?" she asked me.

"My mommy and daddy are on a trip," I told her, in a baby voice. Brian smiled. "You can't keep AJ out late," I continued. "He has to be here to read me a bed time story. And you can't stay here because they promised my parents that no women would stay over night."

Marissa looked at me, shocked. I grinned. AJ hadn't heard what I said but I could hear Kevin laughing in the kitchen and Brian looked like he was going to burst.

"Any one want to play some basketball?" I asked.

"I do," said Brian and Kevin.

We left the apartment and as soon as we were outside, all three of us started to laugh.

"You were good in there," Brian told me. "Kev, you should have seen Marissa's face when Drew said she couldn't keep AJ out and she couldn't stay over. It was priceless."

"Is she always like that?" I asked, as I grabbed a basketball and shot.

"Yes," Kevin told me.

"We still haven't figured out what AJ sees in her. And you'll never guess who her parents are," Brian said.

"Who?"

"Donna and Johnny."

My jaw dropped. "Poor them."
